Jason Varitek

"I can't imagine there would be a big market for him," said a National League GM. "It would have to be a team that had a young pitching staff, a strong hitting lineup that could use him the same way the Red Sox did. Otherwise, I just don't see a lot of teams trying to sign him for big money or more than a couple of years."

Varitek is a FA, just wondering if you guys would like to see him with the Marlins next year? I think he could be a great addition to the club.

I hate Varitek. We don't need that overrated schmuck here. The only thing that he could do for us is to teach the others how to be a stuck-up d**k.

Great team leader and mentor to the younger guys, but adds nothing offensively for us, and defensively he is getting older and his knees are getting weaker. I would say pass.

The most overrated player in the game.

doubtful, he was a good player back in the day, most overrated has to go to Reyass

I wouldn't be against it if he came cheap. He still hits LHP rather well, plays decent defensively, calls a good game, and could platoon with Bake and mentor him.

No...Reyes is actually a good player.

Well said Rab, I agree

That is most insightful what all was posted there and I have just quoted and I completely agree with it. Really, I just agree with it so much that I felt I needed to take the time to tell everyone else how much I agree with it and, in doing so, hoped to show some kind of appreciation to the poster that I have just quoted by copying his post and making this short post of my own, as well as tell the rest of the community my thoughts on the matter.

Definitely. If you can get him for the same price you got Luis Gonzalez, this is a no-brainer. He is not going to be paid for his contribution on the field, but in the clubhouse. Just like Luis, you can't find a better leader. He will also bring you that much-needed experience in the post-season.

I agree with My mentor, if he comes cheap i'd go for it as he hits lefties is good defensivley and can handle our young pitchers along with mentoring Baker

That's an intelligent answer.

What are the chances of that happening?

Uhh... go look at his '08 statline.

Doesn't matter, he's still going to ask for a lot more than he's worth. The Marlins are not the type of team who would just go out and spend millions for a backup catcher.
