November 4, 200322 yr It should definitely not be a closer. Saves is the most overrated stat in the Majors. If u think about it a closer can easily come in with 2 outs in the 9th and throw 1 pitch and he is credited with the save. wtf is up with that. i guess throwing 1 pitch and getting a out pretty much makes you an CY YOUNG candidate. i cant stand people sayin that gagne should win it. there are more pitchers that deserve it for pitching more than 1 inning. any relief pitcher can come in and pitch 1 inning and hold a 3 run lead. 3 FUKIN RUNS. YEY!!!!!! anybody can do that. ok i admit he is still a awesome closer, but you cant give the cy young to a pitcher who pitches 1 inning and holds a 3 run lead. cmon 3 runs is a pretty big lead heading into the 9th.

November 5, 200322 yr Author Smoltz is a closer because he didn't have the stamina to go 9 innings anymore after the Tommy John. But you could use more of an arguement for him because he was good enough to be a starter.
