Doesn't work that way, dude. The Yankees can't call up Ben Sheets and expect him to accept a 1 year deal. First-time free agents like Sheets are going to be looking for AT LEAST 4 year deals. 1 year deals are pretty much for fringe level players, bench guys, and old veteran players.

oooohhhh man, the yankees signed kevin cash. the world series is inevitable, lol. but on a more serious note the yankees aren't planning on signing pettitte anymore unless they move an outfielder. i wonder what they're going to do with the surplus of outfielders (matsui, damon, nady, swisher, gardner, and melky). i know money doesn't win championships but they're going to be a tough team to beat because their pitching has been their weakness the last couple of years but now they're stacked with sabathia, burnett, wang, chamberlain, kennedy, and hughes.

And while Joba has tons of upside, I'm not sure how he'll be over a full season starting at the ML level.

Or do you take the lower upside and bring back Pettite, as a number 5 starter and live with a 4.2 - 4.5 ERA, but know you'll get most, if not all, of his starts?

 

If I'm the Yankees, I'd lean more towards the Sheets/Hughes/Kennedy plan. At the same time, there's also every opportunity the Yankees could bring Pettite back and use Hughes and/or Kennedy to snag a Max Ramirez/Taylor Teagarden to be heir apparent to Jorge Posada. Definitely an option for them...

Ridiculously amazing is a relative term. This rotation should, by all measures, be MUCH better than last year's. Better pitching = more success. If I were in the AL East, I'd be scared...

Personally I hope they sign Sheets, Lowe, Perez, Manny, etc.
