February 13, 200917 yr I agree with Erick, Its the pen. look at the phils and rays last year both had good pens and ok staffs with 1 or 2 guys who were good. I need to disagree here. The Rays didn't have an OK staff, their ERA were the second best in the AL. The Phillies weren't as good, but their staff had an ERA about .20 points lower than the league average.

Yeah i didnt look into the Rays stats, I knew they were good but not that good. But I mean we dont need guys going 8 or 9 every night. As long as 2 can give us 7 to 8 innings i think we'll be good.

Last year's lineup was 5th in the NL in runs scored, despite having Mike Rabelo / Matt Treanor start a good portion of games at the start of the season (replacement, Baker for a full year = getting better), Amezaga getting starts in CF (replacement, Maybin = getting better...both offensively and defensively). Willingham was the worst loss, but he missed a lot of time last year, regardless of how you look at it. We have Hermida, who should improve looking at his splits, and Cody Ross...how is he a fluke? His OPS+ last year was very comparable to his career OPS+. How did the team get worse offensively? Do you guys miss Mike "I am the definition of one-dimensional" Jacobs or something?

Lindstronm gonna become Brad Lidge and Hanley's gonna become a 35-35 guy even though he wasn't even proved he can handle the 3 spot. Cantu's just gonna continue to raise his game and Hermida's gonna finally have his bust out season

But can he really be consistent all season? help us get into the playoffs? we gotta see if Cantu does what he did last season. Although the defense should improve I still don't think that the offense is going to be that good. Hanley, Uggla, and Cantu IMO will be good, their track records say so. However the younger, inexperienced hitters have yet to establish themselves and there are quite a few of them in the proposed lineup. Hermida can slump and it's usually hard for him to come out of it (i.e 2008), Baker shows promise and has shown incredible potential, Maybin has no track record of hitting big league pitching except for the month he was up last year (I hope the way he hit during that time is how he will hit this year). Gaby and McPherson have little track records of hitting big league pitching. If everyone hits to their potential then we will be good and yes it will be exciting. I just believe pitching is going to keep us in the hunt, both from the starters and bullpen. Cantu does not have a proven track record. A couple of good seasons, a couple of poor seasons, and a couple of injury-plagued seasons.
