March 7, 200917 yr We won 84 last year with the likes of Mark "Too-Tall" Hendrickson, Rick Vanden Hurk, Eulogio De La Cruz, and Burke Badenhop getting significant time in the starting rotation. Umm...What? Total Starts in 2008: Henrickson - 19 Vanden Hurk - 4 De La Cruz - 1 Badenhop - 8 32 starts combined or maybe a full season for one pitcher. Explain to me how they each had 'significant' time in the rotation last year..... I'll give you Hendrickson. I could 'maybe' give you Badenhop if you want to really get liberal with the term significant. But VandenHurk and De La Cruz.... :lol :lol How is 30+ games not significant? And as Lou said...I forgot Tucker, as well. Thats not what you said. If you had meant combined put combined. The way you word it does not imply combined. Try again. Most teams have problems with their 5th starter anyway, so its not like its that out of the ordinary to have a fifth starter struggle which is what these 4 equate to. Here I will do it for you: Mark "Too-Tall" Hendrickson, Rick Vanden Hurk, Eulogio De La Cruz, and Burke Badenhop combined received significant time in the starting rotation.

Running my mouth? :lol Obviously, plenty of people understood what I meant. No need to get your panties in a bunch, hunny. I'd say you're taking this a little too serious. I'd continue the bait of making fun, but unfortunately I have enough problems to deal with right now to be arguing with an idiot who can't comprehend.

You do know you do nothing by banning me, right? My life will go on. Trust me. So go ahead...put me on notice. I'm scared.
March 7, 200917 yr I never mentioned anything about mod stuff or banning you. This is what happens when you imply things. You fail.

If you weren't talking about "Mod Stuff"... what on earth was he on notice for? It's quite clear that you guys aren't BFFs like Rabb and I who are going to the Panthers game tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *snuck into the message board for Rabb and Adriannelove's sakes*

March 7, 200917 yr Don't forget the negative impact those [typically] short starts had on the bullpen. Absolutely. I still think we're going to need to get 100-150 innings out of Meyer/Vanden Hurk/Trahern this season however as the 6th SP. That's what worries me about this whole conversation.
March 7, 200917 yr I'm sure lack of focus and rust have nothing to do with it. Then tell me why they are once again leading MLB in errors ? Many of them came into camp in January to work extra, and they still suck. A spade is a spade, a bad defense man is a bad defense man in MLB. And this year the bats are silent.....this could be a less than 60 win season. :banghead :lol 6 Spring Training games, is it? SPRING...TRAINING being the key words. Like, when was Dan Uggla ever this bad defensively when it counted last year? Why was Gaby Sanchez complimented for his defense in AA when it counted last year? 60 win season? Get a clue. We won 84 last year with the likes of Mark "Too-Tall" Hendrickson, Rick Vanden Hurk, Eulogio De La Cruz, and Burke Badenhop getting significant time in the starting rotation. This year's team has a more healthy pitching staff coming in, and better defense. Just give it time. We got rid of one of the worst defensive players in baseball already who increased each infielders' error total last year. Just calm down and take Spring Training for what it really is. While I do admire the optimistic viewpoint, I gotta start to wonder a bit. The improved pitching won't mean much if they don't play well behind those guys. However, until the guys get back from the WBC we won't be able to make any king of fair analysis. Although I think ST means more than some do, I don't think this part of ST means that much at all. Gotta wait until the team is together.

I could 'maybe' give you Badenhop if you want to really get liberal with the term significant. But VandenHurk and De La Cruz.... :lol :lol He meant the cumulation of all of them for significant time. And he's right. Tucker also had 6 starts, so it's more like 38 starts from "the backup starters." 38 starts is a lot when you have around a 6.50+ era from that group of pitchers last year. If the back end of our rotation throws 5 eras this year as opposed to the crap last year, we're shaving 25-30 runs off instantly. Let alone if they actually pitch good and can get into the low 4 eras. Further, add in Miller with another 20 starts and Anibal 10 starts of a high 5.50 era, and the Marlins had almost 70 starts last year from a group of pitchers with over a 6 ERA. That is a pretty big deal when you consider the Marlins legitimately achieved their record with a positive run differential. There is a lot of room for improvement here. Don't forget the negative impact those [typically] short starts had on the bullpen. I think that is one thing alot of fans seem to either forget about, or choose to ignore when a bashing opportunity arises. More often than not our SPs couldn't get through 5 innings, much less give any kind of quality start, and that had a huge impact on the pen.

March 7, 200917 yr I know its March, but can they at least get the damn routine plays straight? Andy Fox is beyond horrible, hell a little league coach could probably teach better infield fundamentals. How could anyone on this forum possibly know that Andy Fox is a horrible defensive coach? How do you know what kind of fundamentals he preaches? Are you a member of the Marlins FO? There's only so many groundballs you can hit to a guy before you realize its not making a difference. This is exactly like firing a manager when a team is losing. Its a very annoying misconception when people don't understand that sometimes the PLAYERS are responsible for their flaws. because the statistics back it up. I mean whats the point of having coaches if its all on the players anyway? I mean just throw them out there and go from there. Why have spring training at all for that matter, its all on the players anyway. I mean hell teams fire hitting coaches all the time because the overall runs produced is in the toilet. Pitching coaches too. You would think the same would apply to infield coaches. You cant fire the players so you have to fire the coaches, send a message and hope that a different voice will produce better results. What statistics? You can't blame the defensive coach because a guy throws a two hopper into first base or doesn't get his glove down on a ground ball. This isn't little league. And what does spring training have to do with this? I stated that there was no possible way of knowing that Andy Fox was a bad defensive coach and you replied that there was no point to spring training without coaches.
