Postgame Thread - Opening Day

As I watched the game yesterday a few thoughts kept going through my head:

-Is it really possible Beinfest envisoned all this w/ EB and this could be one of those trades people talk about for years to come

-Is Darren Daulton the new Erick/Marlins Lou?

Dalton, Erick, and Lou are all extremely different, especially Dalton from the last two.

Yeah, I have no idea what he means here?

One last memory from the game:

I live in DC, so listened to the Nats announcers for the game. When EB made it 4-4, the play by play announcer says, in disbelief, "and Emilio Bonifacio is batting 1.000 against his old ball club, the Washington Nationals."

the color guy bitterly replies with: "he'll be hitting .220 by the end of the week"

I couldnt help but LOL

Is that color guy the ex-pitcher? His name escapes me right now. If so, he's a total jerk/hypocrit. I watched a Marlins @ Nats game this ST and he was doing color. Constantly bashing the Marlins orginazation. For instance, when Maybin came up to bat he said, and I quote, "This is another guy that the Marlins stole from someone." Real hateful like. Problem was, Scotty was pitching to him.

Don Sutton. And yeah, he's f***ing horrible.

I always liked Sutton. And if he said they stole Maybin from someone, that's a compliment to the Marlins I'd say, being able to steal him from another team.

I meant that yesterday i read through a 10 page debate on EB's qualifications to hit leadoff with Daulton leading the "trust the FO crowd" with Erick leading the "no logic to EB batting leadoff" crowd. Suffice it to say I thought/think? EB has no business leading off and I usually rely on Lou and Erick's posts as the voice of reason/sound logic/through analysis.

Think of it like bizzaro world. If EB turned in the best leadoff performance in Marlins history (hyperbole) than maybe DD is the new Marlins Lou/Erick.

I agree about Hanley's selfless bunt - and he was rewarded later in the game with the granny.

NICE GAME MARLINS!!!!!!! What a treat for the fans!

Hanley made a mistake bunting in that situation. I don't care if he surprises the defense. A runner in scoring position with no outs, early in the game and the #3 hitter at bat.....you go for the big inning there....you do not bunt.

I would agree with you if it were later in the game, but in the 1st inning I think it was a great idea

was smelling it as soon as he hit it

BS. I watched it and about 22 replays of it and he jogged about half-way to 1st, no where near flat-out. Only when he figured out that it might not be caught did he start to crank it up.

Which is amazing, considering that anyone else who did that would have wound up on 3rd.

The guy is without a doubt the fastest guy wearing any major-league uniform.

Yeah i read in the paper he even thought it would be caught so he only jogged.

You guys are right. I just saw the replay of it for the first time.

I don't care much for Sutton either. But that's not the guy. For some reason I'm just drawing a blank. Ever have one of those? I can see the guys face and hear his voice, and can't come up with his name. Damned CRS.

Forgive me, but you have it backwards.

It would make sense to give up an out by bunting for one run if it meant that it would tie the game or win the game in the late innings or if the pitcher or a weak hitter were at bat.

However, in the first inning with a runner already in scoring position (2nd base) the number 3 hitter is supposed to do just that....hit the ball and try to score as many runs as possible in the inning.
