Postgame Thread - Opening Day

Featured Replies

12-6 win, Nolasco gets the W. Offense scores early and often. Small ball seemed fun early, then they just said heck with it and started mashing.

Not much more you can ask from the new guy. "The Flash" goes 4-5, 3 steals and an inside the park homer. Quite an introduction to the home fans. Just one day so no crazy predictions, just nice to see.

1-4 hitters doing the damage. Ricky pitched well except for that Adam Dunn creaming.

More positives include Calero's 1, 2, 3 7th, and Dan Meyer with a 1, 2, 3 8th...1 of those 3 outs being Adam Dunn.

Hermida also hit a HR off a lefty at Dolphin Stadium, which was a surprise, and a great sign.

Pretty much the perfect Opening Day.

Wooooooooooooooo!! A WIN!

So glad I woke up in time to see the 3rd inning and on (what was I thinking falling asleep with 25 minutes left till game start time :banghead )

Awesome win! Lets do it again tomorrow!

And the first error of the season goes to....Emilio Bonaficio

It makes you really wonder why he was given a starting job coming out of Spring Training

I mean he is useless with the bat and will never hit any homers

Oh.....

This won't be every game for Bonifacio, but its easy to see why Fredi is happy with him in the leadoff spot. All in all, seeing the way this team looks when it is on the field I have come away a lot more optimistic. There are a lot of players on this roster that earned the spots they did with hard work, and combined with the natural talent of some of our best players that works out very well.

great game and I knew bonifacio could do it. If he does what he did today and makes contact he will be great. ricky was good but that Dunn home run hurt. The one guy that really worries me in the pen is Kensing not only from today but I just cannot trust him.

That was a great opener. Nolasco pitched great except for throwing fastballs to Dunn when he can't hit the breaking ball.

BTW...Was that our Chewbacca we saw at the game?

Great win. But please don't get ahead of yourselves with Bonafacio. This is one game.

486 SBs is out of the question?

Not much negative to say about this game. I was a little sad to see that Uggla didn't get in on any of the fun, but I'm sure he'll do some damage in the next game.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

Dunn can't hit breaking balls... awesome.

Ok, I'll admit I was/is skeptical of Bonifacio, and while it is only one game, today pretty much confirmed that Boni has game-changing speed. Hopefully he keeps up the good work.

knew Emilio would do good! Hopefully he keeps it up! great win for the fish and it was exciting and a preview of what is to come in 2009! and since an error was given to bonifacio how many ER did Nolasco give? i am guessing 2?

Looks like Bonifacio was playing like he has something to prove (which he still does).

Perfect game to get me excited for this season (as If I wasn't enough!)

Congrats on Hanley for his first ever GRAND SALAMI!!

I'm thinking 4...even with the error, he gave up a hit and a hr with less then 2 outs...the error wouldn't have stopped that.

I could be wrong though.

mlb.com says 4 ER to Nolasco

also got 5 of the "Pick the First's" correct :)

I know it's a long season and this was just one game, but all you Bonifacio haters must be really enjoying that plate of crow he served you tonight...

I'm so glad I took off work today to watch the game. Bonaficio impressed the hell out of me.

I missed an inning or so though...my cable went out right when Hermida went yard, so i had to drive in rush-hour Tallahassee traffic to Ale House to catch the rest of it. I totally missed the inside-the-park homer, but totally called HanRam's granny!

Nice game for the most part.

With so many great moments by so many contributors, a terrific and extraordinarily exciting way to start the season. Sometimes you go to a game and you come home exhausted, this was I think many left tonight with their Adrenalin flowing wanting more, more, more.

I though EB's play on that bunt was really amazing. To watch it from the upperdeck (where things often appear in slow motion) was a thing of beauty but there was play after play, things to cheer about, trying to list them all guarantees something will be left off.

And I thought this might be a low scoring affair, guys on both sides playing tight. lol.

Regardless of what the future holds for EB I think we all now have a better idea of what Fleming and his guys saw when they advocated picking him up. Probably will never have another game like this but he certainly showed off his bag of tools today.

How about Hanley's sac bunt in the first. The guy is just the greatest player in baseball right now. How many other number 3 hitters in the game today would sac a runner over. This is exactly why every team wants him. OLD SCHOOL
