Posted April 17, 200916 yr I'd love to see Carrol start playing half-time in center for Maybin and Gload in the lineup half-time for Bonafacio, with Cantu moving over to third. Checked the minors for hot bats in the outfield, saw none except a Lorenzo Scott in Jacksonville, and I don't know a thing about him. Thing that has bothered me about Bonifacio and Maybin so far is that for blazing fast guys, they sure don't run. Since the first couple of games, Bonifacio hasn't attempted to run. Maybin doesn't run at all. I just see no reason to let the 0'fers stretch out to far with those young guys. Also, looking at the minors, there are some good starting pitching jobs being accomplished in Double A.
April 17, 200916 yr Maybin >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Carroll Cantu at 1B >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cantu at 3B. This makes us worse.
April 17, 200916 yr What neither has really attempted to do is bunt (to utilize their speed) with enough frequency to keep opposing defenses on their toes.
April 17, 200916 yr Pretty much the only thing carrol has on maybin is his arm. Maybin will come around he just needs some hits to get some confidence. I'd rather have gload on the bench for late in the game.
April 17, 200916 yr I would like to see us make a move for a veteran OF with a good OBS around the deadline, maybe at the cost of a AAA/AA arm. We have a bunch of arms liek RvH, Tucker, Sinkbeil, etc. that we could get some potential value for around the deadline.
April 17, 200916 yr Let's see...Maintain the same lineup that has achieved the best record in MLB, or start tearing it apart and plugging other guys in there?....hmmm :mis2 If the wheel isn't broken, don't fix it.
April 17, 200916 yr I really dont think Carrol will be with this team by the end of the season, There is no reason he would start in CF, he would be 4th in line to play in CF, behind Maybin, Amezega, and Ross.... I hate to be brash about this but Carrol is not anything special, he has is a solid above average defensive outfielder with a good arm. However, at the plate he brings very little to the table...

I'd rather have gload on the bench for late in the game. Which is crazy, because Maybin has a serious arm. I'm not worried about him offensively. I like the approach he's been going up to the plate with, stayin patient and taking pitches. He's going to be fine.
April 17, 200916 yr Checked the minors for hot bats in the outfield, saw none except a Lorenzo Scott in Jacksonville, and I don't know a thing about him. He's not really a prospect. And I'm guessing you missed Gaby hitting .382/.400/.500. A rather disgusting 1/8 BB/K though in 34 AB though, but it's early. But, I do agree completely about getting the bench a little more involved. I would like to see Bonifacio and Maybin 'demoted' to 4 day a week players, try not to have them play the same day, let whoever is playing lead off, and let Helms get 3B vs LHP, Amezaga CF vs some RHP, Gload against whoever at 1B and get Cantu at 3B one day a week, and get Carroll a game in RF one day a week. It'll help everybody.

I agree that you want to improve, but to the point made above, how would this be an upgrade??? These moves would make our lineup much weaker, and not help us win games.

Maybin looks clueless and is hitting around a low .500 OPS. Bonifacio, the honeymoon is over and has whiffed in 7/10 PA. If the team can get some production out of Helms, Gload, and Amezaga, it's not going to be a big deal to sit those guys 3 times a week as we sort out if they are ready for the MLB team or if they need to spend part of the year in AAA. They should be eased into their roles, and not just thrown to the sharks 6-7 days a week if they are struggling. Which they clearly are.

Awesome. Maybin > Carroll, simple math. Oh and: upstatenyfishfan: I am not recommending changes, I was replying to Lou.

Or based on his 3,000 PA professional career, and it's unlikely major wholesale changes are occurring. He was hot? Cool. If you want to declare him Ichiro though, FEEL FREE. Both of them shouldn't be out their all the time. What's the big deal in penciling in 450-500 PA, and if they want to take of be awesome right away, they can earn more time. It's going to help their development by shielding them somewhat over the season, and produce a more positive bench by routinely getting guys AB. Only positives here.

Gaby will be up eventually. Hopefully mid-June to delay his arbitration a year.

I think cornfield is a little premature here, but the things he is suggesting may actually come to fruition if some of the current trends continue. At the very least, it is something to keep in mind as a switch-it-up to give some people a rest. (Half-time is too much, IMO) Again, we should at least wait until the weekend is up to see if we sweep the Nats again and some of these trends start to turn the other way. We are going for our franchise-best-ever start tonight. Hardly think it is the time to be making drastic changes. That being said, when it is time, the changes will likely vaguely resemble those in the OP.

April 17, 200916 yr Regarding Bonifacio, a leadoff and supposedly contact hitter striking out 7 of 10 at bats. Isn't this some kind of record, even for HR hitters like Uggla. That's just wrong. Otherwise, I agree, play Gload more often. Unless the OBP drops below, strikeouts for leadoff batters don't matter. It's not like they're failing to push base runners across the bases. Much of theime, it doesn't matter if they get out by a fly out, strike out or ground out.

No Lou ,Sanchez was not going to start ,when you play 1 day on 1 day off and they say is your job to lose is not the right way to go about it. Not even Maybin was given that treatment he played 2 days on 1 day off more suited to getting on track and Fredi said he wouldn't judge by spring training but they did. 33 at bats to Bonifacio playing everyday. My opinion FO wanted Bonifacio to win and Cantu wanted to play 1B.and Sanchez had options and your right delay arbitration ,but they didn't do Sanchez any favors $$$.
