April 26, 200917 yr How much longer until Beinfest decides its time to blowup the Bullpen? I'm sure with 1 or 2 trades, this mess of a Pen can turn around. New Roles will also help out. I think I am liking Leo Nunez and Matt in a Closer by Commitee role, until Matt regains that Arm Strength.
April 26, 200917 yr Author I wouldnt put it past us to Release Kensing, Re-assign roles, and let Nunez and Lindstrom fight for the 8th and 9th spots. Maybe bring in 1 or 2 guys and place Hop or Penn in the rotation once tommorrow start is over. Woops---just saw this. http://www.marlinsbaseball.com/forums/inde...showtopic=88331
April 26, 200917 yr Washington only moved around 3 roster spots and moved roles around--- 3 spots and 1 spot are completely different. Kiko, Nunez, and Lindstrom are already at the top and all 3 will stay at the top. It's especially different because not only did they demote their setup man, but we were making a move tonight no matter what. Even if we had won in the top of the 9th, someone was gone.

Not exactly who we thought, hey Rab? Gonna be interesting to see how Taylor does today. If he holds his own, he stays for another start. If not....... On a positive note for Logan.... NO is having their version of JazzFest this weekend and next. Good music, good food, and mild weather. Almost makes me wish they could designate fans to AAA.
April 26, 200917 yr I thought this poll was going to be how long do they keep Bonifacio at leadoff. Hopefully he is removed within the week. I know Maybin hasn't been great but I want him to bat leadoff, at least for a few weeks to see how he does, and he excelled there in September.
April 26, 200917 yr I don't think the bullpen needs "blowing up." We have some solid guys and some stellar guys. I am willing to give Lindstrom a few more chances. But Beinfest has never been shy about trading for BP help. But I expect that near the trade deadline. Also, when is Proctor expected back?
April 26, 200917 yr There's a number of guys who are performing admirably in the pen at AA and AAA and I suspect once they get X innings in so the sample size isn't so small and they've had enough exposure to batters with particular strengths so the talent evaluators have the data they need to give advice and make informed comments on their pluses and minuses, you're going to see at least a couple of them coming south. Right now, because their seasons started after MLB most of them have 7-8-9 appearances and roughly the same number of innings but there are guys who seemingly are on track to help the Fish should the bullpen need some fresh arms.
April 26, 200917 yr To me I still stand by that we need two relievers: A (real) LOOGY and a good RHP. LOOGY might not become a need though, with how Dan Meyer has performed so well. We'll see by the trading deadline if we need to make another Arthur Rhodes move, and I really hope we don't need to. He's also been doing well against RHP he's not even really a "LOOGY", which is great. Unfortunately our depth is pretty shot though in the minors with Tank being out, and Davidson has some major control problems. And our RHP isn't looking to hot from the minors either. Our only healthy option in AAA really is Tim Wood (5 walks in 9 innings). Brian Sanches could actually be interesting, and be the "real" version of Gardner/Miller/Nelson of having MILB success but no MLB success until we give him a shot. And in Jax most everyone is on the DL atm. There's also of course Proctor coming off the DL eventually but I don't have much faith in his health nor that much in his skill.
April 26, 200917 yr Hmm, what's up with Proctor. I think I have more faith in his skill than Nny, although it's hard to say what he'll be after injury issues. What about Carlos Martinez, or eventually Henry Owens around the all-star break possibly? And the Marlins are definitely not going to "blow up" this bullpen, and it's not necessary. I'd like to see them claim Steven Shell. His numbers were great last year. Sure the BABIP was low, but his LD% was only 15%, so that's cool. What's the expected BABIP with that? Just trying to figure out how sustainable his numbers might be considered....FTR, the 4 projection systems have him at 3.51, 4.04, 4.19, and 5.05 for the year

And in Jax most everyone is on the DL atm. Jarrett Santos in AA has given up only 1 hit in his 14 innings so far, FWIW... He's 27, and nothing stellar in the minors over the past few years but he hasn't been awful either.
April 26, 200917 yr I think the move with Kensing was correct. I'm still nervous about Pinto. And obviously Lindstrom has to work out his issues but he'll have a role even if it's not as closer. I think they'll look at Martinez again maybe Koronka. Down the line maybe Sanches and Tucker.

Calero, Meyer, and Nunez have been fine, Penn and Pinto have been "ok," and Lindstrom just had an epic meltdown but will probably rebound into his slight above average self. Proctor, RVH, and Owens are all going to be back, at worst, in June, so that should settle the RHP side of it. And like you said, we'll see if we need a LOOGY come July, because we can live with what we got right now. Maybe in August a healthy Tucker or Ceda starts making some noise too. They just had a really bad two games. It'll be fine over the course of the year. Still a lot of talent with this unit, and plenty of time to figure out who we like now, and who we like longterm.
April 26, 200917 yr Santos, Wood and Sanches were actually the guys I had in mind when I posted above.
April 26, 200917 yr Jarrett Santos in AA has given up only 1 hit in his 14 innings so far, FWIW... He's 27, and nothing stellar in the minors over the past few years but he hasn't been awful either. Santos doesn't interest me too much considering he's been considerably old for his level and hasn't done anything impressive. I have to admit to having growing interest in Sanches though. Since being comitted to a reliver basically full time in '03, he's put up real nice numbers. Very Justin-Miller like of not being impressive in the minors as a starter but then turning it around as a reliever. 3.26 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 8.96 K/9 (very near 1 per inn), 2.48 BB/9, 3.61 K/BB, 0.93 HR/9, 3.37 FIP He's a FB pitcher witch is never that cool but his K/BB is real nice. FWIW Chone projection system rates him averagely: 4.18 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, 9 K/9, 3.38 BB/9, 2.67 K/BB 1.13 HR/9, 3.99 FIP Nothing special and can be replicated by a lot of guys in our minors, but still of note. Anyone know the scouting report on hiM?
April 26, 200917 yr From prior to the '03 season: His fastball tops out in the high-80s, and he has a solid curve and change. Sanches doesn't have a plus pitch with his best offering being the curveball, and the changeup is newly developed. ?Sanches is a control pitcher,? said Judd Choate (Royal's Scout). ?He has a curveball, which is probably major league quality. He has a fastball that only reaches the high 80s. From what I hear, he's developed a change up, but I don't know anything about that.? With his success, you have to think the change has become good. However, everything I'm reading keeps saying "control pitcher" so have to wonder if the strikeouts would really translate to the major league level.
