May 7, 200917 yr I just wanted to get a feel for what the board thought of Fredi this far. Fire away with your opinions of his game managing skills, how he handles players and everything else you can think for.
May 7, 200917 yr The struggling offense is out of his hands, as well as the erratic rotation and bullpen. However, he has mismanaged the bullpen several times already this year. That's his biggest problem.
May 7, 200917 yr I was one of his biggest critics in 07. Each year he has improved and you can't blame him for the slumping offense. If anything, he's handled the bullpen very well this year compared to previous years.
May 7, 200917 yr Maybin couldnt hit a trashBIN. EB is just as bad, those are two sore spots for me. And what do you expect from a AA pitcher, doesnt matter what he was like in AA, all goes out the window when you get in the Bigs. Were (the marlins) are going to be below .500 unless changes are made, why didnt we get some big names in the off season? Something to prop up the team for this year. Anyway, when it comes to trades and all that, i get very cunfused, but it doesnt take much to understand that changes have to be made. Right now we are sliding down fast!
May 7, 200917 yr Fredi is the worst hitter on the team. His BA of .000 is really dragging down the offense and the fact that he's not helping out our pitching staff by throwing an inning here or there is a real let down.
May 7, 200917 yr Right now my dog can hit better then Maybin or fredi, my dog can aslo get down the line pretty fast.
May 7, 200917 yr I'm not a big fan of his supporting coaching staff. I'm definitely not a fan of our hitting coach. I think he's ultra aggressive mentality is especially bad for trying to develop young players.

His BA of .000 is really dragging down the offense and the fact that he's not helping out our pitching staff by throwing an inning here or there is a real let down. Fredi was batting well in the beginning, but he is in one huge slump now! In all seriousness, Fredi is doing the best he can. He's been rearranging the lineup like mad. Only thing left to try is batting Boni somewhere other than leadoff. And the pitching staff? Not his fault that some of our pitchers seem hittable. Now, I am wondering what will be Wiley's fate come the end of this season if the team's SP ERA is over 4 or 5.
May 7, 200917 yr Fredi try to change lineup that donot work out We scored 6 runs, what happened is 2 of the guys in place for defensive purposes failed to end a big inning before it got rolling.
May 7, 200917 yr I am not a fan of Fredi, but it may be unfair on my part... He has low payroll rosters to deal with and some players still going throw growing pains... Perhaps he would be more agressive if he had guys / veterans he could trust to get on base / steal / or hit and run etc. I would like to see Fredi manage just one season where Loria put some money into the payroll and the FO pursued some top free agent talent... If the Marlins still fail to win games, then it proves the ability of Fredi is as a manager... The reality is: money is going to a stadium, the farm system could be doing a Tampa Bay in 2 years as far as exploding with talent (my favorite is comparing the farm club to a game of Risk - in 2 years we will have a bunch of cards to trade in for armies)...so why bring in big names now that may be gone in a year or 2 if a prospect is gonna push them out...I think they will spend in '11 or '12 when the stadium is about to open, they have holes to fill, and they have seats to fill...the nice thing is as long as half of the talent coming up pans out, the FO won't have to go spend-crazy on free agents in a few years like they did for the '97 team
May 7, 200917 yr im not a big fredi fan but im with the guy who said the hitting coach is more of a problem. my issue with fredi stems not from his roster moves as i dont believe he has much control over how the ownership spends its money, yet i think our young players need a manager whose also a good teacher of the game and i dont think fredi is. weve been making the same mistakes for a few years now and it annoys me that fredi doesnt hold guys accountable. i watch hanley sulking back to the dugout yesterday after making an out and no coach says anything to him about it (some fans were on his case tho) and i wonder why dont they tell him to shrug it off and run like a normal person back to the dugout. or why on earth uggla wasnt benched the following day after he tried to steal second last year in 4-2 game in the 9th. you have to set an example and be a good teacher if you want to manage a young team successfully and i just dont see fredi as that kind of guy. but in the end, he isnt bad or anything and its not like he costs us tons of games every year even when he makes bad roster moves.
May 8, 200917 yr I'm not a big fan of his supporting coaching staff. I'm definitely not a fan of our hitting coach. I think he's ultra aggressive mentality is especially bad for trying to develop young players. I want to blame somebody for that but I'm not sure if it's Pressley or the players themselves or the FO for going with this roster in the first place. All I know is that it's embarassing when our hitters are out-smarted by 46 y/o soft tossers, journeyman relievers and winless #5 starters.

May 8, 200917 yr Author I like Fredi myself. He's a local guy, we are both Cuban and I truly want to see him succeed. However, while I feel he can be a successful big league manager, I don't think he is the right fit for this team. The Marlins are a young team that need leadership and character. They need a guiding voice that keeps them in their toes and pulls their ears whenever they step out of line, and Fredi is simply not that guy. He's a players manager, and that's ok when you have a core group of veterans that go about their business everyday and don't need to be reminded of it. But you can't be a players manager with a team as young as this one. Some of the stuff we see, like Hanley not hustling and Almezaga getting picked up at first should be addressed and dealt with, those mistakes need to stop, guys need to show some testosterone. I see this team do things that wouldn't fly under Jack McKeon for instance. By the way, is he interested in turning another under performing team around?
May 8, 200917 yr we didnt win titles in 97 and 03 because we had leyland and mckeon as managers we won because we had good teams bobby cox is considered one of the best managers in the game and he only has won one title with the braves (division titles dont mean sh*t if you cant win the big prize) give the marlins a payroll other than the worst in the league and magically Fredi becomes a better manager
