uggla will be traded before the all-star break

Doubt it, heavily.

If Coghlan can keep it up, then I think Uggla will be traded. Probably to San Fran for Matt Cain or someone of that caliber. They will definitely trade him for a pitcher. I just don't see the Marlins dishing out upwards of $6 million for Uggla next year. Only if he hits .280 with 30+ HR and 100+ RBI's.

Next year is one thing, ASB is another.

True. But remember, Uggla is 29 and Coghlan is considered our 2B of the future. And I can bet you Coghlan's defense is better than Uggla's. They only problem is that we would be letting go of another power guy.

I think his d will be about the same as uggla's which isn't bad. Maybe slightly better.

Too late, you already spelled it correctly in this thread, so I know you know how to spell it. You're just doing this to be difficult.

Coglen.

Hanley's 4 hits might earn him fish o' the game. I voted for Ricky. 1 BB in 6 is good to see.

That being said, the 5th inning rally put the nail in the Coghlan.

Where's miamibaseball? I told him Coors Field would be good for the Marlins yet he maintained his position that it would be a disaster.

does anyone think that if coghlan as a couple more good games that uggla move over to 3rd and boni gets benched?

Coghlan would be the one to move to 3B, since that's his natural position.

If that were to happen, it's a ways down the road. Last couple weeks Boni has cut way down on the Ks and has looked more comfortable at the plate. Stellar defense. I would like to see him work on his bunting alot more tho. Use that speed to "steal" 1B. Speed, defense, pitching, and cut down on the Ks. He's fitting 3 of those off season requirements. People may want him to fail because he beat out a board fav this ST, but the team will be very patient in his learning curve. He's making contact and is saving runs with that glove.

Chris is being groomed as our 2B. He may see some time relieving in the OF tho. He came up and had a good game and now alot of folks have him as the answer. He's not. Let's see what he does once teams know how to handle him. Has no one learned anything this season? And if anyone spells Boni at 3B it will be Helms. Gotta get him some starts in. In any case, it wouldn't be a bad idea for Boni to sit a day and get some extended one on one time with Presley to work on a couple things. Bunting, for one.

Just an opinion. We shall see.

Me too. Mainly because it is fully dependent on what Chris does. And it is going to be tough to get Chris any kind of extended playing time to see if he can adjust to the adjustments. It looks like the missing pieces are a defensive catcher and an experienced SP/long relief. It would be nice if that were handled from within, but if not I would expect Jeremy traded before Uggla. The FO has shown it's willingness to lean in that direction in the past.

He's "stolen first" a few times this year, so yeah, he's fast. His defense hasn't been that "stellar" as much as a bit above average while looking really pretty with much help off picks from Cantu at 1st. But that's ok, nothing wrong with average to a bit above average defense.

And how you can consider the man with the second most Ks on the team as fitting "cutting down on Ks" I will never know.

Now to the "he's been looking more comfortable" that so many have been saying:

Last 7 games: .218/.228/.218 with 6 K and 1 BB.

Previous 7 games: .200/.314/.233 with 10 K and 5 BB.

He's actually done worse at the only thing a leadoff hitter needs to do, get on base. His BB/K has gone from 1/2 to 1/6. As you noted, he's struck out less, and that's been done with somehow making contact with almost everything near the zone. And while that doesn't come anywhere close to making it impossible to get out, it makes it almost impossible to draw a walk.

So yes, he's looked more comfortable while failing, as someone else put it. I guess that's better than looking tense while failing.

So, he fits 2 of those 4 off season requirements, he's fast and he's not a bad fielder. And he can't use his speed because he's never on-base to steal anything, shown by him only having 1 SB and 2 CS in the last 14 games.

Oh, and Fredi mentioned that Coghlan will indeed get some starts at 3rd, in addition to LF and 2B. So expect to see someone at 3rd besides Boni and Helms.

Uggla for Matt Cain?

Doubt the Giants would be that dumb.

I'm not sure we could get much more than a Grade B prospect for Uggla at this point, frankly.

it was great to get a much needed win last night. i wish we could play this well at home. hopefully they can use the victory as a spark to get things going. we need to stay close to that first place spot all season long. we can not let that get out of our sight.....

Here we go, as soon as a player comes up and have a good game, we are posting about trading this player, moving another player and all the other moves, five or six games down the road and player not doing as well we are ready to hang him, two names comes to mind from not to long ago, Bonifacio and Maybin. lets take it one game at a time, i just want wins, hope we win tonight.

put chris batting 1st today and bonie at 8th spot...see how it might work out? maybe boni gets better and chris does a solid job.

Uggla isn't going to be traded, especially if he keeps playing like this. You'd get nothing for him. Granted, he's had some hard luck.

Whether Uggla stays is not dependent on Chris Coghlin. Coghlin can also play third instead of the struggling Bonifacio (who is more suited for a pinch runner) or it sounds like the front office wants him to play outfield.

Uggla isn't going to be traded but ...

he's worth much more than that, he's still a 2 time all-star in 3 years and he has 30/100 potential from a 2nd baseman, there's not many of those around.

but he is not getting traded

Wow, Coghlan plays one game and now Uggla is getting tradedine less than 2 months? I do realize who and what Coghlan is as a prospect, but I am also a little sick of how everyone writes off Uggla after he does poorly in April every year, and he hasn't even been that bad at the plate.

That said, I don't know where the two fit in on the same team. So far as I understand it, Coghlan would be a defensive downgrade at 2B or 3B and it's not as though we are actually lacking an offensive producer at 2B.

Honestly, I think Coghlan will be back down once the pitching staff is filled out again, not because he's not ready, but because he should be playing everyday, and there really won't be a spot for him.
