General Cameron Maybin Discussion

A day after the Marlins sent him down, Cameron Maybin made his debut at Class AAA New Orleans on Monday and went 1-for-4 in the Zephyrs? 5-3 loss to Albuquerque.

?He?s not the first guy who?s been sent down and come back and had a Hall of Fame career,?? manager Fredi Gonzalez said on Sunday.

That comment got a couple of Marlins scribes wondering - just who were some Hall of Famers who were sent down after their major league debuts?

Quite a few, actually. Mickey Mantle, Carlton Fisk, Nolan Ryan, Goose Gossage and Billy Williams, according to some last-minute research from Freddy Berowski, a Research Associate at the National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum.

Anyone out there think Maybin has what it takes to follow the Mick, Goose and Billy to Cooperstown?

...

this article might be a little much. I mean I know they aren't comparing him to such HOFers, but they seem to be giving him so much praise after just being sent down, rather than mentioning how he still did bat under .200, struck out a ton, and has a lot of work to do before he can even make it back to a major league level of play.

btw I am one of thsoe people who feel Maybin will come back and have a successful MLB career

What praise? The only thing it did was point out that there is no way it's intelligent to call him a "bust" already.

Just to think, all these people who have given up on Maybin already would have been the same guys calling Cal Ripken, Jr. "a bust".

Yeah he's done for.... Mayben is a bust!

He won't ever make it in the majors... We got screwed in the Cabrera trade.

I think this was a joke and I hope your signature is too because although I don't like Bonifacio at all and think he should be on the bench, he's a very good bunter and baserunner.

He thinks he's the next Nigel Wilson. I don't think it's a joke. At least not wholly.

It was a joke but it's also how I feel... And yes I compared him to Nigel Wilson.

You still stuck on this? lol seriously get over it... He "MAYBIN" is the next Nigel Wilson.

HE IS DONE!

See? He was not joking.

Yeah but I did say it in that post as a joke... Being sarcastic.

You're not at all worried by the fact that your idea is a joke?

I am just confused about how it can be both a joke and something one believes.

"It is how I feel, but it is a joke, but it is how I feel!" So, we are supposed to do what with that?

Because everyone knows how I feel already, and I just posted it on that reply being sarcastic... I guess you kids have never heard of Sarcastic humor.

Anyway I'm not going away... Ok troll?

If it's sarcastic then you don't believe it.

You are free to have an opinion. However, constantly bringing it up, being sarcastic about it, will not convince anyone that it is valid. If that is what you are trying to do.

I think he needs to work on his bunting skills some more. But there has been good offensive progress so far. He's learning and progessing. But there will always be those with so much hate that they will refuse to see it.

How do prospects like Maybin that are prone to a lot of groundballs and a lot of strikeouts translate to MLB?

I assume a lot fewer groundballs become hits at the MLB level than in the minors so my guess is probably not too good.
