I agree, we should stop relying on small stretches. Besides small stretches, there hasn't been much good for the speedster.

Yes, good one. However, I am arguing that his overall numbers this season do not justify the hatred. He has not been our weakest link by any stretch of the imagination. I do not need to point to the first 6 games or the last 6 games. I am talking about an overall .250 BA and a .300 OBP. This is not great, and it might be exactly what some "haterz" expected. But it is not our biggest problem, and it is not that bad for a good defensive player in the 8 (or 9 spot).

It's not great, it's truly awful. Especially si

Forget about arguing that he shouldn't lead off. I get it.

Oh. Ok then.

Ahh, I see what you did there.

Thank you, thank you.

Hey hey hey, family program!

You can say "forget about leading off", but that's precisely why people get on him so much.

For me, it's more the front office. How could they not see this was a bad idea from the get go? And then keeping him there once it's prove to remain a bad idea?

What people are trying to say, Daulton, is you, BroncoBob, 2003, etc. basically seem to want people to ignore the 120 at bat stretch where he was completely worthless and only want people to think the 6-7 games where he wasn't awful are relevant, and that is illogical.

The issue is, this is more or less who he "is". The reason Uggla and Cody are not getting the hate he is is because they are expected to be better. If, for instance, we were getting league average 3B production, we could handle a Uggla and Cody slump a lot better.

There are "bigger problems" but those problems more or less have to fix themselves. We, Beinfest, ect, do not have power over Uggla's and Cody's slump. Beinfest does have control over a poor hitting potential thirdbaseman though. We can not "fix" lf, rf, or 2b. We can "fix" 3b, just like we "fixed" CF.

Also fwiw, he's only struck out 3 times on his 7 game hit streak (31 PAs)

When a guy is on a learning curve you look at the improvements he has been making with a series of "small sample sizes" and not at the total picture. And the improvement has been there consistently. Far less K's is just one thing they wanted him to work on and he has produced there big time. Before you start saying he hasn't, actually check the stats from April and then May. Going into Saturday night's game he was K'ing about once every 6.33 ABs in May. In April that number was once every 3.88 ABs. Know who on the team has a better ratio for May? No one.

Me, 2003, and Daulton aren't ignoring anything. We are going by what the team has said and looking to see if it is justified. Go back and check, we didn't get all goo-goo eyed when he started the season off on fire. Didn't rush home and slap him on a fantasy team, or play him on a video game. Instead taking the let's wait and see if he can make adjustments once other teams had a chance to see him. At first he wasn't able to, but as time went on he has. They put him on a learning curve and it has been working. Putting the ball into play instead on K'ing is just one of those things, but a pretty nice one for someone with his speed. Thinking otherwise is just illogical.

Cam expects to be back in the line up soon.

There's the guy I'm more interested in right now. Probably for different reasons. That swing was just so erratic and inconsistent. Nothing fluid at all. His demise was more of his own making rather than being able to make adjustments. He failed on his learning curve and got sent down because of it. I don't know why and I'm not comfortable pointing fingers at who may be responsible for it, other than himself. BUT If he does get things straightened out at AAA and comes back up here with that swing fixed, we may have to take a hard look at our hitting coach.

Last season because of the K totals and the inability of our hitters to adjust I thought maybe they would look his way in the off season. But it's pretty hard to justify letting a guy go that was at least somewhat responsible for those team offensive numbers we set 2 years in a row (actually, I think that is 3 consecutive seasons). But now with the majority of our good batsmen having basically a 1 1/2 month slump, Cam's inability to fix his problems, and now Chris's seemingly inability to make adjustments to pitchers, it may be time. Fredi and Beinfest want a shake-up? Nothing will get the players' attention more than firing/demoting one of your own guys. I believe Jim is a Beinfest guy. He was here before Fredi, anyways.

Add me to your list. I don't understand the Boni hate.

He plays 3B better than it's been played here at anytime since Lowell. That alone explains why he is here.

He runs like a tornado. That adds an exclamation point to his roster spot.

He has no power, he's essentially a rookie, yet he's hitting .267, which is better than Uggla, Hermida, Ross, Amezega, Gload, Paulino, Helms and Coghlan, and within 4 points of Cantu and 8 points of Baker. As crappy as he's supposed to be, he nonetheless owns the 4th best batting average on the team. Beat out a couple more infield grounders and he's second only to Hanley.

He's OPSing better than Uggla, Ross, Amezaga and Helms.

Yeah, he had a string of useless offensive games in April, but, as has been repeatedly said, he's been improving. Significantly.

He's a kid, but a determined kid with a lot of basic tools and the apparent drive and desire to hang around.

I like Wes, but think about it. Boni is faster than Helms. Boni is younger the Helms. Boni has a better glove than Helms. Boni is hitting better than Helms. Boni has more potential upside (limited as it may be) than Helms, who is a fully known quantity.

The same could be said of Boni versus Amezaga, who I also like, with the possible exception of glove. Which explains why Boni is still an every-day starter.

Instead of getting on Helms or Amezaga (or regulars Uggla, Hermida and Ross,) some people get on Boni. Makes no sense.

He's starting because he deserves to be starting ON THIS TEAM. If you have an extra $5 or 10 million (or even 2 or 3) to spend on 3B on another team, he'd be on the bench. We don't. Meanwhile, he's getting the job done for $400K.

I suspect that he'll continue to meet at least minimal expectations for the rest of the year.

Damn. I couldn't possibly agree more. It seems like every time I log on this blog there is always a new blog bad-mouthing this poor guy. He is far from a finished product but I have no problem at all with him getting a chance to play everyday to see what he can do.

Says the guy whos username is HanleySucks.

  • 3 weeks later...

Maybin was just removed from the Zephyrs game after injuring himself on a steal in the first inning.

Oh NO!

How long is he out for?

Probably won't know until at least after the game.

Add me to your list. I don't understand the Boni hate.

He plays 3B better than it's been played here at anytime since Lowell. That alone explains why he is here.

That's why he's made the most errors then anyone on the team, and has played worse then ANYONE we have EVER had defensively at 3b... He makes Cabrera look like a gold glover over at 3b... If you can't see that the guy has no glove then your blind or you are family of his because nobody could be this stupid to compare him to Lowell! WTF are you smoking? Go watch some baseball because it's clear the sport is new to you.

He runs like a tornado. That adds an exclamation point to his roster spot.

Yeah what good is being fast when YOU CAN'T HIT MAJOR LEAGUE PITCHING!? Thats the typical answer Fredi gives to defend having this clown out there! Your name wouldn't be Fredi would it? lol

The guy is a punching judy, and yea most of his hits have been infield hits due to his speed but he also gets thrown out stealing or just standing at first like an idiot so again what good is speed if you can't hit, and when you do get on you get thrown out because you have terrible base running instincts, and he is a terrible base runner.

Again more reason why he doesn't belong starting on this or ANYONE's team.

Actually he's hitting 246 with no power, and can't really drive in runs, and doesn't steal much, and is terrible defensivly, and while Uggla has a lower avarage he does have much better overall production then Bonifacio.

Let's compare! Uggla: .225 Avg, 40Rbi's, 11HR, .343 OBP, .461 Slugging, 34 walks, 27Runs

Now let's see Bonifacio: .246 Avg, 13Rbi's, 1HR, .291OBP, .297 Slugging, 16 walks, 30Runs

Now you can't tell me that Bonifacio is having a better year! The numbers which he should be high on for a leadoff man is Avg, Walks, Runs, OBP, and as you can see he is terrible at everything!

His Avg is slightly higher but they are going in different directions while Uggla is snapping out of his funk, and is starting to heat up Bonifacio has been getting worse, and worse, and will soon be at the mendoza line with how he's hitting.

And you can compare him to anyone on the team, and his numbers are worse then ANYONE! Except Coghlan because he's just been called up not long ago, and Carroll who's been on the bench and hasn't started much.

But I can bet you that if those two guys had the same amount of playing time they would both out play, and out hit Bonifacio! No doubt there.. The guy is a horrible baseball player.... PERIOD!

He's OPSing better than Uggla, Ross, Amezaga and Helms.

Man you really have no idea what you are talking about!! AT ALL!!! Uggla's OPS is .804, Ross is .753, Amezega has hardly played this year due to injury so you cant compare but even a bench guy like Helms has a better OPS with his being at .598, and just so you know Bonifacio is at .588 seriously do you even watch the games? Because you are as clueless about this clown as our front office.

Seriously dude check the facts before you post something so clearly ignorant to the facts.

Yeah, he had a string of useless offensive games in April, but, as has been repeatedly said, he's been improving. Significantly.

He is possibly the worst defensive 3b in all of baseball right now, and he makes an error almost on a nightly basis out there! Some count some are mental mistakes. The guy has no range also since he's so short, and doesn't get to anything down the line.

He has been useless at 3b since April hell he's always been useless as a baseball player period.

He's a kid, but a determined kid with a lot of basic tools and the apparent drive and desire to hang around.

Yeah well let him be someone elses problem child sorry I don't like the fact that we're stuck with a light hitting punching judy at 3b... Not all kids make good major leaguers, and he's one kid who shouldn't be in a major league team he should be working at 7-11.

I like Wes, but think about it. Boni is faster than Helms. Boni is younger the Helms. Boni has a better glove than Helms. Boni is hitting better than Helms. Boni has more potential upside (limited as it may be) than Helms, who is a fully known quantity.

Only thing you got right is that bonifacio is younger but Wes would out play him in every way especially with the glove! I mean seriously are you on some hardcore drugs when you watch the games?

The same could be said of Boni versus Amezaga, who I also like, with the possible exception of glove. Which explains why Boni is still an every-day starter.

Amezega is a brilliant defensive player how dare you compare them!? You should be ashamed of this! Amezega is also a much better hitter then Bonifacio but for some reason the team doesn't see him as a starter sadly enough they do with Bonifacio who is well underway of proving how incompitent this front office is with their talent scouting.

Instead of getting on Helms or Amezaga (or regulars Uggla, Hermida and Ross,) some people get on Boni. Makes no sense.

Because those guys are good, and Boni SUCKS!!! HE IS TERRIBLE, and we all see that! The only person here who seems to have vision problems is you, and the marlins front office!

He's starting because he deserves to be starting ON THIS TEAM. If you have an extra $5 or 10 million (or even 2 or 3) to spend on 3B on another team, he'd be on the bench. We don't. Meanwhile, he's getting the job done for $400K.

What job? Look at his numbers he isn't doing the job he's making the Marlins look like an F'in joke! Just like your post is a joke... Stop posting such ignorance please.

We have a few guys we could throw at 3b which won't cost us no 5 or 10 million in our organization right now!!! Heck we could throw Coghlan over there, and he's on our team right now! And he is much much better then Bonifraudio.

Ah, the post you're all bent out of shape over is over 3 weeks old and ALL of the numbers in it were accurate as of the date the post was made, 5/17. At that point, we had played 38 games.

Please resume your Bonifacio hate as soon as you get done wiping the spittle off your chin.
