July 2, 200917 yr Please Please Please trade that #4 OFer Hermida for a legit bullpen guy and NOT cody ross There's a difference in who we want to trade an who other teams want to trade for. We want to trade Uggla or Hermida but the way they been playing teams want Cody Ross and Jorge Cantu.
July 2, 200917 yr Rosenthal Discusses George Sherrill By Tim Dierkes [July 1 at 11:56pm CST] Orioles closer George Sherrill sports a 2.51 ERA with 17 saves, and had been lights out recently until today's outing against the Red Sox. The 32 year-old southpaw is under team control through 2011. Since the Orioles are 10.5 games out of the wild card, it's only natural to expect a few trade rumors involving Sherrill. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports discusses the possibility of a deal in an article tonight. His source speaks of talks with Florida that have "tiny legs" that "could grow given time." The Marlins' closer, Matt Lindstrom, is currently on the shelf with an elbow sprain. Rosenthal says the Fish would not be willing to part with Chris Coghlan for Sherrill, though the O's like the rookie. The Orioles have a clear organizational need on the left side of the infield. A trade of Sherrill is no sure thing, according to Rosenthal. He speaks of Sherrill's stabilizing presence on the team's young pitching staff. I imagine it would be easier for the Orioles to part with Danys Baez, especially with over $2.8MM remaining on his contract.
July 2, 200917 yr If we trade Coghlan for f****** Sherrill I will seriously go nuts. The FO may be stupid at times but are not that stupid, they have a mindset on who they want to trade and a young player who's showing great talent and would be worth almost nothing for a few years isn't on the list.
July 2, 200917 yr that's what I'm talking about when I say they shouldn't be desperate for bullpen help. I'm all for getting another top arm in the pen, but I hope they're careful about who they give up. And yes, I realize that the Urbina for Adrian Gonzalez thing is the reply, anytime anyone ever says this.
July 2, 200917 yr Someone in the media, I think it was the Sun Sentinel but I could be wrong, suggested that a deal for Luis Ayala was imminent and that Cantu and Amezaga were touting him, a fellow Mexican. If you were to believe though what has been written in the press (not blogs or message boards) he has nothing left in the tank, and much of his numbers this year and last would seem to confirm that. That he may be signed to a minor league contract is I suppose a good thing and if you believe the media's read on him, he is far from the answer the front office is seeking. Certainly no Urbina.
July 2, 200917 yr Author Good, I want to keep Coghlan. obviously. That trade just seems retarded to me.

Certainly no Urbina. lack of respect and consideration for what hes capable of ( the twins did not want him as an 8th inning guy)is the reason why he's not having such a good year.If we were to give him the 8th inning spot, then we can give leo the closer rule, and luis would be pleased. Or, if we acquire a closer, we could flip flop leo/luis in the 8th inning. Its a win/win. well, IMO.

I know what you meant but really he's not good enough to be making demands. 2. If this lack of respect, setup role thing is behind his lousy numbers in 2009 (and take a look at his gamelog), how do you explain his horrendous numbers in 2008?

"MIAMI GARDENS - As soon as today, right-hander Luis Ayala could be a Marlin. The Marlins are among the teams that have expressed interest in the veteran reliever, who the Twins last week designated for assignment. The Twins, who signed Ayala to a one-year, $1.3 million contract last offseason, are expected to give him his release this afternoon. That would clear the way for Ayala to sign with the Marlins or any other team for the prorated $400,000 major league minimum, about $207,000 through season's end. According to a source who has spoken with Ayala, he believes the Marlins are a good fit and may be his top choice. Ayala has relationships with fellow Mexican countrymen and World Baseball Classic teammates Jorge Cantu and Alfredo Amezaga. He also knows General Manager Michael Hill, who was in the Rockies' front office in 2001 when Ayala was in the minor league system there. In addition, Ayala is familiar with the National League East, where he spent the first five seasons of his career. Ayala made the last of his 28 appearances for the Twins on June 20 and would likely require a brief stint in the minors." http://www.sun-senti...0,2235127.story

He may or may not be "good enough" to be making demands. Regardless, according to reports when the Twins released him, he was indeed making demands to pitch the 8th inning. 2. Since May 18, he had 15 IP, 3 ER (1.80 ERA), 9/2 K/BB. I'm not using this also small sample size to say that he's awesome, but this was the stretch of games leading up to his release. Doesn't seem like the typical line for a guy a team's about to get rid of. Overall, though, I'm not sure why anyone would be against a minor-league deal, at least, if possible. But his overall season line isn't horrible, IMO. I would still take him over Leroux and Wood, and maybe even Pinto, who'll walk 5-6 per 9 innings, if his track record is accurate, while Ayala should walk around 2.
