Volstad 2008 version was a very lucky pitcher. He usually played with fire and rarely got burned. It's catching up to him this year.

ummm chris' era is approaching 5 and hes given up home runs every start.....yes vandenhurk is not better but he has been doing well. all im saying is that chris needs some time to tweak things.

As Tommy said before the game today, take away the start against STL & the horrible start in Boston, his ERA is easily in the 3's.

lisen i know chris is a great pitcher but he has not been doing as well as he should. When you throw 116 pitches in 6 innings means that he got lucky and got out of some jams and long at bats that easily couldve gone the other way.

 

you can see from his face that his confidence has been hurt. look what it did for ricky! and just because we waited until rickys era was over 9 does not mean that we should do that same for volstad if we see stuggles coming along.

 

dont forget ricky mixed in a quality start or 2 in between his struggles. had this game continued volstad would have easily given up 6 runs.

your "Ricky can go down and fix things, Volstad can too!" is one of the worst arguments I have ever heard. Based on that whole paragraph I guess JJ is the worst pitcher on our staff, considering it took him 89 pitches to get through 3 1/3 innings.

 

Minors isn't the solution, just because a player is struggling doesn't make it the answer to send him down.

 

And your argument "Ricky had quality starts too!!!" doesn't fly, he had exactly 1 quality start in 9 starts to begin the season. Volstad has 10 quality starts in 16 starts this season
