July 21, 200917 yr Marlins defeat the Padres 3-2. VandenHurk: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO Save: Nunez HR: Ramirez (15)
July 21, 200917 yr good game except for that dumbass at 3rd. i give it to RVH because he came up and gave us a good start and kept us in the game. now i'm going to bed.
July 21, 200917 yr My FOTG is Bullpen. Just 1 walk allowed, through 3 innings. And hitters are still struggling at RISP. DAMN.
July 21, 200917 yr Yeah I gotta go with Hurk, we really needed a good start for once. Back end of the rotation has been doing so bad lately.
July 21, 200917 yr Is it me, or does John Baker looks kinda like Glen from 'brooke knows best'? (glen is gay :mischief )
July 21, 200917 yr If there's such a thing as an unimpressive win, this was it. Come on now, there have been a lot more unimpressive wins.

July 21, 200917 yr If there's such a thing as an unimpressive win, this was it. At this point, impressive or not, a win is a win.
July 21, 200917 yr If there's such a thing as an unimpressive win, this was it. True Plus he gave up 2 homers ouch The offence scoring in the 7th gave him a lucky win Speaking of LUCK Geo Gonzalez for Oakland gave up 4 homers and 11 runs in 2 plus innings and did not get the loss. The W-L record of pitchers is almost all luck
July 21, 200917 yr Good win. However, the Padres are pathetic & we only scored 3 runs when we had the chance for more. Pretty lame but I'll take the win. Facing the Dodgers scares me with this lineup struggling to score runs.

July 21, 200917 yr Btw, I'd just like to add that if the bullpen is the "problem" then I'm clearly blind. B/c I don't see it. Yet, when you hear the Marlins and you hear the Marlins name as buyers, the first name that seems to come up is George Sherrill. If you ask me, the backend of our pen has done a good job, and right now with the signings of Donnelly and Ayala, our pen is as deep as it has been in awhile. Not to mention Lindstrom is coming back. That's another arm, if needed, although right now I'm not even sure if he deserves a spot, with the way the others have pitched. I mean think about it... Nunez, Meyer, Kiko, Sanches, Donnelly, Pinto, Ayala, Badenhop...anyone of those guys deserve a demotion right now? I don't think so.

I think that with all the guys we've brought in and others elevating their play, its gone from problem to being our biggest strength. Trading for Sherill wouldn't help the offense score runs or the starters pitch quality starts. Adding talent is always nice if you hope to make the playoffs, but I don't think Sherill elevates our playoff chances enough to warrant trading half of what he would actually go for.
July 21, 200917 yr Nice outing from RVH. The big test will be his next start on Sunday against the Dodgers. If he can pitch well in that game against a potent offensive lineup then we can gain a great deal of confidence in him. If I remember correctly, he often pitches well in his 1st start since being called up and then struggles after that. Hopefully this time he can continue his success.
