August 18, 200916 yr So I just found out that the Detroit Tigers acquired Aubrey Huff from the Orioles for a minor leauge pitcher. While reading an article on that, I came upon a thought: Will we be making any waiver trades? Here is a list of players who cleared waivers: http://www.mlbtrader...ar-waivers.html Also, John Smoltz was officially released, it seems unlikely that the Brewers would agree in a trade for Doug Davis with the D'Backs, and the Padres' Heath Bell has cleared waivers. There are many players out there that are available, but why have we not done anything yet? The deadline is approaching, teams have improved their rosters drastically, and we have only acquired one player who is a tremendous risk day by day (Nick Johnson). Will we acquire anyone? Will the FO bloster the Marlins' roster with key additions that could affect our playoff fate? Only time will tell. Until then, I will be waiting, I will believe.
August 18, 200916 yr Just b/c a player clears waivers, that means pretty much nothing, sometimes. For example, the Yankees aren't giving away Robinson Cano. Seriously...you see any major upgrades out there? Also...we also improved, drastically. Nick Johnson is a drastic improvement. We might need another starter, and the Marlins are rumored to be interested in Smoltz. What, exactly, are you looking to get?
August 18, 200916 yr We can't get Doug Davis. He got claimed by the Brewers and then pulled off waivers when that deal wouldn't happen. They won't put him back out on waivers because that would force them to let him go, maybe for nothing at all. And he wouldn't make it past the Brewers again or the Cubbies.
August 18, 200916 yr This is a list of "known" to the media players who it is believed have cleared waivers. No doubt the real list is much more lengthy and closely held by baseball's GMs and league officials. Bruney might be only guy of any real interest here but I would guess the Yankees would pull him back the way he's pitching in August and tiny dollars involved.
August 18, 200916 yr Did you write this post yourself or did you copy and paste it from somewhere else?
August 18, 200916 yr I don't trust Smoltz at all. We don't need a teacher at the moment. heh, with our starting rotation, maybe a teacher is exactly what they need
August 18, 200916 yr giving smoltz a shot wouldn't the worst thing to happen. he'd sign for the minimum and we wouldn't have to pay any incentives since he was released. not to mention smoltz would only be facing 7 batters in the NL since on most teams the 8th batter sucks and the 9th is the pitcher

August 18, 200916 yr Author Seeing how our rotation has turned around, I have no idea what the SP will be next season.

I think the reason he thought it was written by someone else is because that's usually what happens when you see a post without word-wrap formatting. Why is it that you hit enter/return in the middle of sentences?
August 18, 200916 yr Seeing how our rotation has turned around, I have no idea what the SP will be next season. Well, we pretty much know it's going to be five of Johnson, Nolasco, Volstad, Sanchez, West, and Miller. My guess is that Nolasco will be the odd man out.

Even notepad has a word-wrap option now.

I think Lou has him at only around one million next year.

August 18, 200916 yr i agree with Rab and Gizmo. i'd prefer sanchez as the odd man out and if he comes back with good stuff we could get some value in return. if we get rid of nolasco we'd be left with JJ and 4 average pitchers, at best.
August 18, 200916 yr Missing so much time is the reason he might be the odd man out. Not to mention how he's been when he's not missing time. I think it really depends on how he does when he comes back up this season. If he is decent, they bring him back, and he will be millions cheaper than Nolasco.

I never said that I'd prefer Sanchez to return, I just said that it was a guess. With the salaries of the two players next season, I'd say there is a higher chance of Sanchez being in next year's rotation than Nolasco. Of course though, if money wasn't in issue, I'd take Nolasco any day.
