Missing so much time is the reason he might be the odd man out. Not to mention how he's been when he's not missing time.

I think it really depends on how he does when he comes back up this season. If he is decent, they bring him back, and he will be millions cheaper than Nolasco.

I agree that it depends on that, but I don't know how much.

Hopefully we can get quite a lot in return for Ricky, if we move him. I'd give up a heck of a lot for him if I was another team, but hopefully his poor start to the year won't hurt his value much.

Adrenaline - what Rab said. Also because you used some phrases such as "I came upon a thought" which seems atypical in your posts so far, which while good, often are link "What kind of chick do you like? Be sure to include here assets :p". :thumbup

i agree with Rab and Gizmo. i'd prefer sanchez as the odd man out and if he comes back with good stuff we could get some value in return. if we get rid of nolasco we'd be left with JJ and 4 average pitchers, at best.

I never said that I'd prefer Sanchez to return, I just said that it was a guess. With the salaries of the two players next season, I'd say there is a higher chance of Sanchez being in next year's rotation than Nolasco. Of course though, if money wasn't in issue, I'd take Nolasco any day.

If we we're to trade Nolasco this offseason, what could we be getting in return?

Minor leaue pitching. As much as we could possibly get. That's our weakest minor league area right now, and with West up, we don't have many legitimate pitching prospects. I imagine we could get a good haul for Nolasco.

Again, depends on how he finishes the season, and it also depends if the Marlins would want to go for one great prospect or two or three good ones.

What are your predictions?

Just curious.

Nolasco will be traded for multiple prospects (most likely pitching), and our rotation will be Johnson, Volstad, Sanchez, West, Miller. If you're looking for specific prospects, I can't help you there.

So who are all the players that are bound to be traded this season?

(Again, just speculation)

Nolasco, Hermida, Uggla. Possibilities are also either Cantu or Ross, but I think both of them stick around.

First, to prior posts yes. Anibal is give or take $1 million. Ricky is going to be $4-4.5 million for 2010. Second, Sanabia and Winters will both be in AA next year. They are both OK prospects that could be useful over 10-12 starts. I don't think the SP is as bad as people think. We could have major breakouts from Kaminska, West, James, and Berglund to name a few next year. Yea all lower A, but we're OK in pitching. It would be nice to have another West in AA, but I think every organization in baseball says that.

I think you keep JJ, Nolasco, Miller, Volstad, and West. I think Anibal, and I'm going to say Lindstrom (who is going to be $1.5ish million), get moved. We have a ton of RP arms, so when it comes down to it. Lindstrom has had a solid career despite random drillings in 2009, but if we are penny pinching under $40 million, he's certainly expendable.

Here is a mock

C John Baker $415,000

1B Gaby Sanchez $405,000

2B Chris Coghlan $405,000

3B Jorge Cantu $6,000,000

SS Hanley Ramirez $7,000,000

LF Brett Carroll $415,000

CF Cameron Maybin $405,000

RF Cody Ross $4,200,000

B Emilio Bonifacio $415,000

B Wes Helms $950,000

B Ronny Paulino $880,000

B Raynor/De Aza/Jai/Petersen $405,000

B “Veteran Bat $750,000

SP Josh Johnson $5,500,000

SP Ricky Nolasco $4,500,000

SP Andrew Miller $2,000,000

SP Chris Volstad $415,000

SP Sean West $405,000

RP Leo Nunez $1,600,000

RP Reynel Pinto $850,000

RP Dan Meyer $415,000

RP Rick Vanden Hurk $415,000

RP Brian Sanches $415,000

RP Burke Badenhop $415,000

RP Wood/Leroux $415,000

$39,990,000

That's keeping two arbitration bat starters (Cantu, Ross) to not give the offense to the AA/AAA teams, and every pitcher we have now except Anibal, Lindstrom, and Proctor. Those three combined would easily make $3.5 million in 2010. Which is just way to much for unknown futures. I think this is a decent balance between offense/pitching.

Trades - Uggla, Hermida, Amezaga, Anibal, Lindstrom

Potential Call Ups

Hitters - Morrison, Stanton, Dominguez, Cousins, Petersen, Raynor

Pitchers - Wood/Leroux, Tucker, Trahern, Winters, Sanabia, Cishek, Parcell, G. Taylor, C. Martinez, Ceda, Owens, plus the FA gems Beinfest finds every year.

If you can get a good SP prospect for Uggla to plop in AA, which is likely, and just get random future powerarm RP/utility men (as we have a major 2B/SS depth problem in AA/AAA) with the rest of them, that's pretty good to go depth wise.

I don't think anyone cries about this team. Morrison coming up in June (hopefully to LF with Gaby establishing himself as a .775+ OPS bat) is the missing piece.

I don't regard any newly-drafted players who haven't pitched in the minor leagues yet as legitimate prospects, even if they were first or second round picks. James and Berglund could turn out to be top prospects, but they're not proven yet, and even if they succeed, they won't be up for a long time. None of our top prospects our pitchers, and the ones who are, are probably going to end up in the bullpen (Ceda, Tucker). West is going to be up for good next year, and we traded away one of our top pitching prospects in Thompson. I think our depth at SP in the minors is very slim, and would expect everyone who is traded this off-season to bring in a handful of young arms.

I also completely forgot about Amezaga since he's been on the DL for so long. I assume he will be traded, and Bonifacio will be the future Amezaga.

We still have Jeff Allison.......

no thank you in regards to taylor graham in our rotation

We need Andrew Miller to get it going!

Why?

So that he can fail in the majors again?

Presumably, "getting it going" would include NOT failing in the Majors.

Because he can still be a solid mid of the rotation guy if he get's his mechanics straight.

He's been good when he consistently throws strikes but when he's wild it doesn't even seem like the other team hits the ball when they score a run.

Nolasco is most likely to get dealt for prospects since he going to want good money going into arby so I'm hoping for 2 solid at least B Potential Starting Pitchers.

If not we could always get some for Uggla and Hermida(Together or just Uggla)or Possibly Cody or Cantu.

We'd be probably looking at J.J. Volstad, Sanchez, then a choice of guys for 4 and 5 spots.

We're in a lot of trouble if we're giving 350+ innings to Taylor and Villanueva in 2 years.

I think Nolasco is a lock to stay. I don't see why they would break up the pitching. If anything, they'll shed all the arbitration hitters and sink or swim with Morrison, Stanton, and Dominguez right away, versus jettisoning some of the only reliable innings we currently have. And I don't think they'd even do that.

We aren't going to penny pinch like 2005/2006. We're building for the stadium. Not everyone is going to stay, but they can afford 4-5 of the main arbitration guys, and still have a few bucks for some small ticket items like Paulino, Pinto, Helms, etc.

You know i'm sure opposing teams fans are having a solid laugh at all you weanies catering to Jeffrey Loria and the need to keep trading players and keeping payroll very low.
