Rangers submitted offer for J.J.

Featured Replies

Oh, and the Orioles are about to get Kevin Millwood for Chris Ray. Meaning they have a ton of pitchers (Britton, Arietta, Erbe, Hernandez, etc) we like, Felix Pie, and they still need a right handed 3B/DH and relief help. Likewise, the Rangers have an even more inexperienced starting staff than we do now.

Just saying, if that deal goes down, both those teams are going to be calling cause we have what they need, and they have what we want. Something is going to give here.

I'm not sure I see the "need" for Felix Pie and have no fundamental axe to grind when it comes to him. Not with the guys working their way through the system, at least not until a number of existing contributors are elsewhere. It's not by accident Pie's value has diminished over his time in the bigs. And just for the record I thought at one point last season if he was acquirable, we should.

Can we trade Amezaga for for Felix Pie...I'll Trade pasta for pie anytime

That may just be an even better return than we received from Detroit for possibly the best hitter in the game today. That's REALLY saying something. The crazy part is, that's just the offer that SETS THE MARKET for JJ, and we declined. Imagine what most franchises think it would take to acquire him now...

That's a pretty insane deal to pass over. Move Morrison to left and now you have the ability to deal Ross when Stanton is ready. You also have Gaby Sanchez maybe hanging out to replace Cantu. Feliz could jump right into the rotation soon enough, and we're already stocked with arms.

I guess we're already so set all around the diamond, there's no reason to move JJ at this point with Morrison, Sanchez, and Stanton all ready to hit the majors at some point this year. They must be optimistic about cutting a long-term with Josh.

Because we need to move Coghlan to 2B, leaving LF/RF (depending on where Ross ends up) to Brett Carroll. Felix Pie still has big time upside and his stock clearly went up last year, but is still not very high overall for obvious struggling for years reasons. Still is only 24. This is the opportunity to get him. Hit righties well last year, and look at that .842 post. Not a ton of PA, like 300, but he showed up in them. He'd be great to work in and out with Carroll and see if we could strike gold. Would be a perfect mix with Baltimore's young pitching if we can get them to bite.

If we get that for JJ, I would want them to trade Hanley too to see what he can bring in, lol.

Someone needs to make a post about all (read any) of the things Loria has lied about.

I would actually really enjoy reading this.

You wouldn't because there is no one here who could make a single, referenced claim.

To be honest, I would rather sign up JJ long-term than trade him, even if it is for 2 top prospects. My reasoning? The doubt in my mind that still lingers around the Maybin-Miller deal. While I still am confident they will succeed, that has now been 2 seasons and there has been very little contribution from them, and they were both top prospects aswell. If we have the resources to keep JJ then we better goddamn do it.

This. Will we end up getting fed another "rebuilding for the future" b.s. line, all the while trading away our only consistent pitcher from last year? I mean, I like seeing Burke Badenboop as much as the next girl, but not in the fourth inning of every other game.

Sorry, but this is the way the Marlins operate. They simply HAVE to get maximum value for their players that they potentially cannot afford. Signing pitchers long term...no matter how good they are...is usually a risky move.

I agree. I mean millions of deals on signing pitchers long term that have turned out poorly to come to mind (Pavano to the Yanks), and asking for four years is pretty ridiculous, since like no one really does it... I don't know, it kinda feels like a lose-lose situation. It doesn't seem like we'll have a solid rotation next year. I don't trust in either Andrew Miller or (wtf) Hayden Penn, but maybe they'll surprise me?
