It will be nice to keep this pace and pull decent winning streak together Only Hensley and Nunez have shown to be adequate bullpen options this year. Everybody else has pretty much sucked. Hensley and Nunez have been terrific. Pinto has a 2.70 ERA. Leroux has been adequate. Badenhop was great until a rough stretch and the sub-1.3 WHIP is still decent. Sanches has been fine, even if lucky. Saying only the two of them have been "adequate" is not fair. An adequate RP is 4.50 ERA or better, IMO. I'm not even going to get started with Pinto. His ERA is ALWAYS at or below 3. You know why? Because all the runs he gives up are always somebody elses runs. Pinto is one of those guys that you teach yourself to never look at the ERA, because it is always misleading. I love Badenhop, and he started the season well, but right now he's having a rough stretch, and to say he's having a good season is wrong. Sanches hasn't been on the major league squad or in enough clutch pitching situations for me to really judge him yet. I like him as a reliever, but lets see a bigger sample size from him first before we judge. Leroux is having a slightly below average season as a reliever, with his high 4 ERA, but he's having the type of season we should expect from him. I'm not upset with him, but he's not proving to anybody that he deserves a spot over a number of guys who are currently pitching well out of the bullpen in our minor league system. Leroux is still a guy who will flip flop between AAA and the majors for the rest of his career imo. So in terms of who you would trust out of our bullpen right now, Nunez and Hensley are the only guys I'd look at when they come in to pitch and say "Good, time for a quick inning". Everybody else in the bullpen makes me nervous right now, and I and every other Marlins fan has a right to be hesitant when any of the other guys in our bullpen come in to pitch.
May 16, 201016 yr Maybin definitely gets the FOTG honors for last nights game. We could have ended up only scoring 1 run in that 1st inning but Maybin came through and drove in 2 with a single up the middle. Then he drove in another later in the game with another rbi single along with some good defense he played. I think we've found some roles for our pitchers now. Badenhop MR/LR Leroux MR Sanches MR Hensley SU Nunez CL Those guys have done a great job this year with all the bad going on within other guys in the bullpen. I'm glad Cantu did well after a day off and it would be great for him to continue on a tear for the next month or two. One thing I must point out is that Gaby Sanchez is exceeding my expectations of him and the expectations of most posters on this board. I expected a decent batting average with a solid on base percentage with good plate discipline and then some run production would be a plus. 1/4 Way through the season, he's showed probably the best plate discipline on the team along with a slash line of .291/.371/.479 with 18 RBI's, 17 runs scored and 10 doubles. I also love having him in the 2 spot and I feel if he continue what he's been doing that you keep him there whether Maybin starts hitting well or not. Just wanted to give my Kudos to a guy who has made a difference this season after all the negativity spoken towards him.
May 16, 201016 yr Not a big deal, but I didn't like how Fredi pulled Robertson with two outs and replaced him with Leroux only to have the pitcher's spot due first the following inning. I hate burning through arms that carelessly, especially when it seems like Robertson could have made it out of the inning. I kinda felt the same way. Conversely, I liked him keeping Hensley in to bat so he could pitch in the 8th; with a runner on second and two outs, I wonder how tempted he was to PH there and run another reliever out for the 8th.

May 16, 201016 yr I mean, I'll admit it. When Pinto comes up in a tight spot, I have no faith. When he walks the first batter he sees, I get mad. But when you step back from it, he gets the job done more often than not. This is a case where our collective perception is completely far from what reality is. I understand why Pinto gets so much sh*t, but I think it's important at times to step back and realize that for the money he's making, he could be worse, and he's certainly not as bad as 95% of Marlins fans make him seem.

That's why none of the coaching staff has faith in him. He's a friggin' lefty for god's sake, and Fredi is always hesitant on putting him on.

It's true that we might have not scored a run, and it definitely would have been harder, but different things happen when the circumstances happen. Yeah, and I get that it was a bad call and I also get that you're not upset we got a break. I think we all feel like that and are just happy we took advantage.

I doubt he was attempting to state a quantum truth (or whatever you'd call it), nor do I know remotely near enough to lecture anyone on the topic. And for what's it worth, I certainly agree with your and Bob's statements. AFAIK it's [virtually?] an absolute truth that we have limited powers of perception.

I don't disagree with any of this, except for the Pinto/inherited runners thing. To me, though, that's basically an adequate bullpen. So maybe we just feel "adequate" means something else in terms of bullpens. For me, our guys have generally been adequate or better in most cases.

With that said, has anyone noticed that Fredi Gonzalez has lost some of the confidence he once had in Renyel Pinto? Can't say I mind because late inning relievers who walk a lot of guys bother me, but just an observation there. Pinto hasn't pitched in a significant situation in quite awhile. Last time, imo, was when he hit Dunn with a changeup with the bases loaded, which I believe was a full week ago.
