June 24, 201016 yr Is there any chance that Edwin Rodriguez stays as manager? I think its only fair if they consider him to be the permanent replacement.. Is he being considered???
June 24, 201016 yr There is only one person being considered, and that is Bobby Valentine. When he says no (which he probably won't), then they might consider him.
June 24, 201016 yr what would be funny is if the Marlins run off like 8 straight wins with Edwin as manager....
June 24, 201016 yr Honest question: What does Edwin offer the team that other managerial candidates do not? I can think that he is a organizational man, being the AAA manager for us before this gig. But, then again, Fredi was a AAA for us for a long while and a lot of good that did him in the end. And I would much rather have a guy come in with managerial experience at the major league level for us. Our last two managers both were "rookies" and look how those turned out. Not bad, but we ended up with a lot of little things we didn't like about them (and complained that someone with more experience might do better at (i.e. Fredi and his bullpen moves over the years).
June 24, 201016 yr I hope whoever the Marlins hire gets a better bullpen. Rodriguez is a good organization man and he deserves a spot with the big club, but I really think they're going to seek someone with several years of MLB managing for this job.
June 24, 201016 yr If Edwin gets replaced by Valentine and we have not lost a game under him I say we organize a riot :\
June 24, 201016 yr If Edwin gets replaced by Valentine and we have not lost a game under him I say we organize a riot :\ Why? He's the interim manager.

I was referring to if we end up on an 8 game win streak (which was mentioned above a couple of times). If that were the situation you dont mess with things while everything is going good. Case in point... Washington Capitals are dead last in the NHL in 2008, and fire their head coach to replace him with interim coach Bruce Budreau. They catch fire, and make a Cinderella story comeback to make the playoffs on the final game of the season. The job search for head coach resumes in the offseason, where Budreau is found to be the best candidate for the job. If there are any signs that Edwin is a good manager, give him a chance. What is the worst that could happen?

So you prefer an 8 game win streak over a guy that brought a Japanese team from worst to first in his first year of management and eight years of .500+ management including an NL pennant (on mostly below average teams) in the MLB? Maybe if our incoming candidate was someone with no experience, yeah. But if you can land Valentine, you do it ASAP.
June 24, 201016 yr Hopefully Valentine says no. Or the Marlins decide they dont want him. Why? Because Spike is only allowed to be on an extreme end of any argument.
June 24, 201016 yr Bobby was under .500 in Texas, and if not for a few seasons where he was handed stellar teams in New York his teams finished with average results as well. His ability as an in game manager has always been questionable and he would probably be fairly expensive.

Lol it seems to me that you immediately dismiss rookie managing... just because he has the title "interim manager" does not automatically mean he's a useless manager just used for treading water until we find a new one. I mean it's yet to be seen, but if he hits a hot streak there is absolutely no reason to change managers until Rodriguez starts to perform under par or away from the playoffs.
June 24, 201016 yr Valentine has a .510 winning percentage and one pennant in 15 years. That's not a good resume at all.
