July 28, 201016 yr The luckiest reliever on the team ran out of luck tonight. Nice meatballs, Sanches. Typical of this Marlins team. JJ goes out and gives a quality start in a must-win game, if they planned to stay in contention...choke. Now they have Sanabia going tomorrow, who will likely go no more than 5 innings, which means we get to see much more of this blowpen. Just trade Cantu and Helms, please. That's all I ask for. At least Cantu.
July 28, 201016 yr This pen always finds a way to blow it. Uggla is doing all he can to carry this team. To bad he can't pitch.
July 28, 201016 yr i was really banking on us being able and needing to take the first two games. a split is not going to cut it and we need to take the next two games. and man this was just one of those games where u could tell it wasnt going to work out for us. i was waiting for that uribe home run.
July 28, 201016 yr We need a solid 6 inning from Sanabia tomorrow and then finish with Veras, Clay, Leo and take it to game 4 where it's Bumgarner vs Anibal. We could easily tack on 5 or 6 early runs against Sanchez tomorrow. Get the job done.
July 28, 201016 yr this team has no chance in hell to make the playoffs with this bullpen and halnley playing the way he is.. maybe next year
July 28, 201016 yr They need to patient tomorrow....Sanchez can get quite erratic eh this is the perfect team for sanchez to face because we are the antithesis of patient
July 28, 201016 yr They need to patient tomorrow....Sanchez can get quite erratic eh this is the perfect team for sanchez to face because we are the antithesis of patient Idk...I dont think they were all that bad vs Cain....he even had 3 walks. And I dont seem to recall many quick strikeouts. However Sanabia has to keep his sh*t together tomorrow and not allow many runs cuz Sanchez can be quite filthy when he has a manageable lead.

We could easily tack on 5 or 6 early runs against Sanchez tomorrow. Get the job done. This is like...the optimistic post! That's great that you're thinking that way, but... 1. Sanabia going 6 is unlikely. 2. At least 1/3 of that bullpen combo I no longer have confidence in. Jose Veras is looking like Jose Veras again. 3. Bumgarner vs. Anibal might be a matchup in our favor, but don't underestimate Bumgarner; he's a top prospect, pitching well in the big leagues now. 4. 5 or 6 early runs against Sanchez tomorrow? Despite the hopeful comparisons on here, Jonathan Sanchez is realistically a lot better than Andrew Miller. We're facing a good pitcher tomorrow. Considering we're among the bottom in team walks, and top 2 in team strikeouts, it doesn't give me much hope against a guy like Sanchez going into the game. Point is, a split is not good enough, and I highly doubt we win the next 2 in SF (I see us most likely taking 1, as we always seem to do. The definition of a .500 team). Bottom line though...trade Cantu. And since I don't like him, and he serves no purpose on a non-contender...trade Wes Helms, too.

Marlins really need to take this SanFran series, cause SD is gonna be tougher. 8-4 since the All-Star break.

Things can improve tomorrow, u never know, just keep watching... we're 8-4 since the breatk, thats good to me Hanley's not the problem, he's hitting .289/.368/.452 which is way under Hanley standards but it's not something that brings the team down. The pen on the other hand needs more than a bullpen arm, it needs like 4. Yeah, we're 8-4 but you can't walkoff every day, you can't come back from a blown pen everyday. This team isn't making the playoffs with this pen. TRADE CANTU!

A win is either making the playoffs, or at least improving from previous years. Tell the front office a non-playoff year is a win...I bet they'd disagree, as well. It's not a win. Finishing a little over .500, and not making the playoffs/playing spoiler down the stretch is not a win for the organization. It's just same sh*t, different year. Hence the reason why part of this core has to leave. And the first guy to leave has to be Jorge Cantu. For all the sh*t the Marlins get for always selling off the team, they've kept the core of a non-playoff team for 4 years now. That never gets mentioned. Some guys have to go for the better of the team. I can't say who for sure, although I do know Cantu is definitely one of them. If they don't play well these next couple of games in San Francisco, they should consider a Cody Ross trade as well, depending on the return.

Well I'm pretty sure if Alex is doing well and only if, Edwin will have no choice but to have him go at least 6 and pass that 80 PC Limit. All we really need from him is 5 or 6 IP allowing 4 R or less. Veras has gotten a little shaky but we need to throw him out there regardless, I still have tons of faith in Clay and Leo. We can really beat Sanchez if guys like Lo Mo, Hanley, Gaby and Wes show some patience and make him throw a pitch to hit. He has been good this season but we own him in his career with a .333 BAA in 3 games (1 start) I know It's a tiny sample size but I'll take it and we need this win tomorrow. Thursday will be tough, Bumgarner is a future ace and we've never seen him before and he's a lefty with good offspeed pitches which is usually bad for our lineup so we'll see what happens. We can certainly do it but we are going to need to be flawless or lucky and we haven't gotten much of either lately. You're right, I don't expect this team to make the playoffs either with the streaky hitting and lack there off a stable bullpen but if Logan can put in a good showing in his time up here along with Sanabia and the somewhat reincarnation of Volstad then 2011 looks really good! B.T.W. Dan Uggla has definitely been the Offensive MVP this season! His Avg is close to .280 he has 21 HR's, 61 RBI's, 67 Runs Scored and an OPS of .855. We really need to resign him for a good amount of money.
July 28, 201016 yr next two games are f***ing huge to say the least. 4.5 out is a lot better than 6.5 out at the deadline.

Yeah, it will suck if this team can't make playoffs when it was close last year, but I'll take another 80 win season worst case. Better than 60 or 70 wins. Look at Baltimore. Or Pitt.

We really need to resign him for a good amount of money. We're all fans, so I can't blame anyone for trying to be optimistic, but that's a lot of if's. Also, I'd just like to add two things: 1. Unlike what you said, I think we've been pretty lucky lately. Very rare to have 4 walkoff wins in a week, and I think we're undefeated in 1 run games, since the All-Star Break. Just saying. Things have sort of even'd out, in terms of our record, and the run differential, etc. 2. I highly doubt Morrison's in the lineup tomorrow, as you mentioned in your scenario. Tough lefty tomorrow, and Bonifacio's been playing well lately. I'm assuming Edwin gives Bonifacio the start in LF. I don't know if Helms will play tomorrow, either. I'd play Cantu to see if he does something; most of the teams that want him, want him as a platoon RH bat against lefties, so these next two days seem appropriate to get Cantu in there, and maybe enhance his trade value a bit.
July 28, 201016 yr Neither Brian Sanches nor Jose Veras are setup men. We need somebody besides Hensley who can do the job.

While that is true, as a fan I'd like my team to have higher expectations and consistently much better results than Baltimore and Pittsburgh. I don't want the Marlins comparing themselves with those two organizations. As I said, I'm sure the front office agrees with me. Despite the low payroll, the front office expected the team to make the playoffs this year. I like that expectation, and if the team fails to meet those expectations, then they failed. If that sounds unfair, so be it. You can't win without having the mindset of a winner, first.
