LordMagnus
The front office made no serious effort to help this team, at all. Beinfest's method of building a buillpen is to throw a bunch of crap against a wall and hope something sticks. I'm growing very tired of watching this team try and resurrect hopeless players. Are they ever going to get serious about helping this team??

Erick
To be fair, Clay Hensley's had a solid year. Once again the bullpen will get blamed...they don't deserve it today. Alex Sanabia: 2 IP, 7 ER. When will people realize that the starting pitching is pretty mediocre, as well? It's a non-contending team. S-E-L-L! SELL!!
Iowa
Low payroll teams don't spend money on bullpens... what do you expect?

yokofox33
The bullpen has been bad, but to be fair we are getting down years from Hanley and Ross. If our offense was more consistent then perhaps that could of over-shadowed our poor bullpen. I don't really know though.

Yeah a split isn't what we needed so It's time to deal Cantu and Helms and if and only if we get a good deal then as much as it pains me we could trade Cody. Yeah Sanabia was without a doubt rushed and you're right about the rotation. J.J. and at times Ricky have been the only reliable and consistent starters to help this team win games by one giving the team a chance to win and two going at least 6 or 7 innings almost every start to help rest the bullepn. Anibal has been up and down but isn't really more then a backend starter and then we pretty much haven't had a good or consistent 4th or 5th starter which we need from Volstad or better. The bullpen shouldn't get all the blame because yeah they have blown more then a handful of games but saying they have been overworked is an understatement. dom2613
Yeah Sanabia killed us today. Besides the homer Sosa gave up the pen did pretty well. Clay should have gotten a DP in the 10th but that ball took a nasty hop on Murphy. Who ever said this team is such a dick tease nailed it. Whats so frustrating is the team wont go in one direction, win a few lose a few. At one point we have to go on a streak good or bad. I'm still holding out hope we can make a run. Id love to make the playoffs but will just be satisfied if we can make things interesting till football season. Knowing this team that's what they'll do, make us think they're gonna make the playoffs then fall off.
Sirspud
And in nearly every season under Beinfest and Co., that method has worked. As evidenced by all of our playoff seasons.

Don't complain when a method that has worked for years happens to fail once in a while. With the exception of last year, the bullpen has been pretty bad, consistently. Basically, we have to get lucky, which is a stupid, stupid way of trying to compete.
dim
And in nearly every season under Beinfest and Co., that method has worked. As evidenced by all of our playoff seasons. That's due to a lack of funds to put a cohesive team together, not a failure of the front offices process. With more funds, we could've gone out this year and gotten ourselves 4th and 5th starters that could go at least 5 or 6 innings each game. Hell with more funds we'd still have Arthur Rhodes and some real middle relief. However, due to having to live off one of the lowest payrolls in baseball, we have to find serviceable relievers at the minimum. And given the constaints put on them, Beinfest and Hill generally find diamonds in the rough (Calero, Jones, Borowski, the list goes on and on). This year it didn't work. Boo hoo. Cry about it to Loria and ask for more money to be put into the team, not the GM being forced to put a legitimate bullpen on an extremely tight budget. dim
Well the title of this thread is "The front office has absolutely failed this team" That's false. They've done the best job they possibly could for years with the restrictions put on them since 2006 that no other team has had to deal with. Our pen also won us a lot of games last year we had no business winning. You can't just say "we lost x amount of games because of the bullpen blowing leads" and ignore that the pen, overall, was very good last year. If the pen wasn't as good as it was, we would have lost a lot more games. "The bullpen" does not equal whoever gets the decision.
Rabbethan
Last year was on the SP, this year on the RP. Also, worth mentioning that it's a strange thread to have when the pen gave up 3 runs in 8 innings.

Due to the payroll, this is the only way we can possibly build a bullpen. March 26, 2007 Marlins traded Yusmeiro Petit to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Received Jorge Julio and cash. December 4, 2007 Traded Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to the Detroit Tigers. Received Dallas Trahern (minors), Burke Badenhop, Eulogio de la Cruz, Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller and Mike Rabelo. There are other ways to build a bullpen, or a team in general, but the Marlins haven't always been good at that. Although to be honest, Beinfest did make a couple trades for bullpen help which worked out real well for us, like Kevin Gregg & Leo Nunez. But too many of our trades in recent years, like the Willingham trade, Cabrera & Willis trade, the Hermida trade, etc. just haven't brought back anything at all.
