canefandynasty
St. Louis Cardinals 1B Albert Pujols said Florida Marlins SS Hanley Ramirez has the talent to be the best player in the game on a radio show this week, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. "When it's all said and done, he has the talent to be the best… to ever play this game because of the ability that he has. That he doesn't even know yet. He's just a young, talented guy who plays the game," Pujols said. "The thing I always try to remember is no matter how much money that you make, always respect the game. Play the game the right way, and just never change. Be the same kid. You can't let this game change you." Thought it might be interesting to read. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder also said the same thing a whil back. I just hope Hanley's ego doesn't explode.

dom2613
He praised him but also let him know that he doesn't appreciate the lack of hustle Hanley shows at times. Ive heard Pujols say this about Hanley before, he can be the best ever and don't let the money change you.
SilverBullet
Even though some of them aren't the utmost best character examples (namely Manny), its nice to see that Hanley has a lot of supporters in the game and some have taken a bit of a mentor role with him. Hanley has said that Big Papi is like a Dad to him. And I've heard him referenced with Pujols more than once before this. Not sure if its still alive but I'm pretty sure Miggy had a nice role over Hanley through 07. Thats good to see and should help in Hanley's progress, evolution, and maturity in the years to come. Its like they all see his talent and seemingly want to help him nurture it. If thats the case, you gotta love and appreciate that.
Entendu
Pujols has said this before. I think it was in Spring Training this year that they asked him. I don't know about the best ever, but the kid's got a lot of talent. As far as the game changing him, it probably will. Not everyone is an Albert Pujols, sometimes talent does things to how you see yourself with regards to everyone else.
MrMarlinPride
That's great praise from one of the greatest players ever. It's pretty much true that Hanley needs to keep his ego in check and that he has the talent to become one of the greatest ever. I'm not sure but I bet not many players have or could have 500 HR's and 500 Stolen bases in their careers and Hanley is on a great pace for both. He's also on a great pace for 3000 hits, he could finish as the greatest offensive shortstop of all time (Not including A Rod since he probably will go down as a 3rd Baseman). heat84
Pujols said. "The thing I always try to remember is no matter how much money that you make.. Hanley hasn't been the same since he signed his contract a couple years ago. He was everything he was expected to be right up to it but he hasn't be back to that level since I don't think. The year he signed his contract, he had a .940 OPS season. Next season, .953, a career high.

Hanley won a batting title last year. He's had a poor year by his standards this year, but last year was fine. Even sometimes-lazy players love hitting, and Hanley's struggles aren't due to lack of want or trying.
gizmo
He's had a down year for the most part this season, but as of late he is really starting to turn it on. If we were still in the playoff race, it'd be even more exciting to watch.

But Pujols certainly is.

But in the general sense, I like the idea of veterans wanting to take Hanley under their wing
miamimarlinswin
Wow, best player to ever play the game. That's praise. But so far hasn't shown but half the heart. Hanley really needs someone to kick his a** and make him realize his potential.

Hanley really needs someone to kick his a** and make him realize his potential. Some times I wonder if he knows his potential, but he would have to "work" to do it. So why bother if people are going to throw $ and accolades at him. He'll just do to "get by". My oldest niece is like that...very, very, very smart....so she went to University of Alabama because she could just attend class, not study, and get A's. She tried the University of Michigan one summer and went back to Alabama because she had to study to get A's at Michigan, lol. This is the attitude I wonder if HanRam does. cornfield
I'll take Mike Stanton, thank you. He's just a baby in the nest, but he's got IT. Within two years, barring injury, his jersey will be number one for not only the Marlins, but for MLB. As far as this fan is concerned, Hanley is wearing #2 for the Marlins for good reason.
