He's not good at baseball anymore, and his leadership/leadership in general is one of the most overrated thing in baseball/sports.
August 13, 201015 yr Helms is pretty replaceable and I'd like to see the Marlins find someone better for that "ninth position player" role. His overall numbers with the Marlins are pretty poor during his second tour of duty. I liked him in 2006, which was when he was most productive. That was clearly a fluke given his poor year and Philly and what he did with the Marlins the second time around. He did well as a pinch hitter last season but his overall numbers were pretty poor. If he could repeat those numbers, he has a role on the team but not at his current salary and under a multi-year deal. And certainly not as the "ninth position player." He's not worthless, but he's certainly overvalued by the Marlins front office. Want to hear something funny? Mike Lamb (the guy who has been DFA'd three times this season by the front office) has better numbers as a pinch hitter this season than Wes Helms does.

Unless you talk to the "it's all about me" players. But because there is no way to put a stat on this................. I'm not a big Wes fan but I do appreciate the things that can't be put onto stat sheets that he has contributed to the team. And from our own player quotes talking about him, so do they. Like I said, this is most likely his last year as a player. He's going into coaching, very likely with the Marlins org.

I'm sure he's a nice guy, so they're not going to just purposely talk badly about a teammate. As far as him coaching, I wouldn't mind. As long as he's not getting paid to play anymore. Because he's no longer good at playing.

August 16, 201015 yr Personally I would like to see Mike Lowell retire as a Marlins, but what does he want? Lowell has done a lot as a Bo Sox, and we traded him when he was down. Caused him to leave his family most of the year. He may not want to have anything to do with the Marlins.

I guess you can add Badenhop as well since he seems to be pitching better/back to his form of last year. Since you included Hopper though...might as well include Veras, as well.
