Even if he gives you Helms' production offensively (which is less than a .700 .OPS...not difficult; Dominguez has power), his glove is still way better than Helms. He's just better.

Actually, the point of this should be that Helms doesn't belong in the big leagues. He's definitely not a starter, and it's questionable whether or not he belongs on a major league bench anymore.

I'm not sure if he'll even give you .680 OPS like Helms. He's just not ready to hit at this level yet.

I was without power for most of the day thanks to a storm knocking a branch into my power lines or certainly would have chimed in earlier.

Dominguez is MLB ready defensively right now!! He won't be called up this year because the FO does NOT want to start that arbitration clock on him, like they've already done with Stanton and Morrison.

I've noticed in the last two months Dominguez has been fairly consistent, I would project a .250-.265 BA from him in the MLB level with developing power in the range of 15 or so the first couple of years and increasing it to mid-20's in year three. Remember he struggled in Jupiter for the first half of last season, came on really strong and then was promoted too soon (in my opinion to Jax), he has done the same thing this year, starting to get hot in 2nd half.

That is all :thumbup

You're operating under the assumption that its a given that pretty much anybody can outproduce Wes. Most players could, but Matt is only OPSing .745 in AA. Cameron Maybin was immensely more productive in the minors at similar ages, and yet when he came up for the first time in Detroit he didn't even have a .500 OPS! Earlier this year his OPS was worse than Wes. I know Maybin has been a disappointment in the majors, but my point is simply that there are lots of very young guys who can produce in the minors (which, oh BTW, Matt Dominguez hardly can) but if they are completely overmatched at that point in the majors, they may hardly even get any hits at all.

You always attempt to say that Dominguez is producing well because of context. Tons of guys who don't need any context at all because their minor league numbers are genuinely good still don't produce early on. If we call Dominguez up, are we going to say that considering his age and his home park, his sub-.600 OPS isn't all that bad? Please, let's not be the Detroit Tigers and bring up prospects just for the heck of it. I've grown tired of explaining how ridiculous it was that they rushed certain guys, and it would be ever more ridiculous for the Marlins to emulate that.

If it weren't for the Marlins overvaluing Helms' "leadership" abilities, Wes might have been unable to secure a major league roster spot after that season in Philadelphia. Some team might have given him a chance in 2008 because his 2006 numbers were pretty decent, but he wouldn't have lasted long with that stat line.

The Marlins have prolonged his career considerably. I bet he didn't even think twice when they just offered him that extension. Players of his caliber disappear from major league rosters all of the time.

Burning an option so that Dominguez can have a month in the majors when he's far from being ready isn't the best use of that option.

Disagree. Like I said originally, it would be to give him a taste of the bigs. I doubt very much he would get much playing time. But it would be good for his progression.

With Cogs most likely playing 3B next season we wouldn't be in a hurry to bring him up for good. His defense is really at the ML level, just his bat is lacking. So when they decide his bat is ready he will make the jump. And because we wouldn't be in a hurry, that jump to the majors most likely won't be a back and forth move. He will be here to stay.

Dominguez has been struggling a ton this year. I'd be extremely shocked to see him get a call.

I wouldn't say that's true. For his age and the level he's playing in, he's been doing alright. Much better than Andrew Miller, who recently was promoted.

Either way, a September callup could just be made for the experience of getting a taste of the big leagues. For what it's worth, I'd be willing to bet that Matt Dominguez right now could outproduce our starting 3B.

You can say the for his age, all that stuff about Dominguez, but you don't bring guys up to the majors who really aren't hitting that well down there, whether they are young for the level or not. If he's somewhat overmatched in AA, he's definitely going to be in the majors.

You guys are taking the September call ups the wrong way. I would see it as part of the learning process for him. Just because they get the call dosen't mean they would be replacing anyone. Maybe an AB or two, or pitch to a player or two. What they do get is the experience of watching and learning from ML players during real games. Whether that be in the dug out or in the pen. An experience they will take back to the minors next season and know better what they have to work on.

I used his name mainly because I would like to see him get that kind of experience. And because I feel that once he is here in the future, he is here to stay.

I don't think you know what an option is.

Awesome. I'm glad someone understands what I'm trying to say.

I'm not saying Dominguez is ready to start in the big leagues; I was just making a point that he can outproduce our current, starting 3B who doesn't belong in the big leagues anymore.

I half agree. Maybe he doesn't belong in the bigs but I don't think Dominguez can outproduce him yet. Doming's OBP is just like .020 higher than Wes, and he's in AA.

It'd be smarter to use someone like Murphy or Luna and that wouldn't burn an important option.

Dominguez's less than good numbers in AA have forced me to be more skeptical toward him than most others are. It seems many people here are willing to consider him the third baseman of the future with a degree of certainty and I'm not prepared to do so.

As for whether or not Dominguez can outproduce Helms, it's rather moot. As Nny pointed out, it's a poor move to blow an option on that. The ignorant types will of course say that he "needs a taste of the big leagues" but it's absolutely poor strategy to waste an option on a 20 year old struggling to hit in AA. The Marlins are starting to experience the pain of those careless option years with Maybin, and he was someone who was considered to be a safer bet with the bat. The Marlins should consider recalling him next September at the earliest, depending on how his hitting shapes up before then.

Nevertheless...In batting values Helms is a negative value there. I'm not quite sure how Dominguez's AA numbers would correlate with a replacement player or Helm's numbers, but I'm a bit skeptical that Dominguez could outhit Helms (because neither should be hitting in the big leagues). However, if you measure total productivity and include defensive ability, Dominguez might be able to match Helm's production defensively and overall (combined offense and defense).

That's far lower then Helms. Plus, Wes Helms is heating up, lol.

Like I said, he'll be like Jose Lopez.

Burn an option for a month's worth of ABs when he's not even producing in AA? No. Also, Dominguez isn't a broken prospect like Andrew Miller.
