October 5, 201015 yr Ok so this isn't exactly a news-worthy post or anything but hey..it's the offseason..while we're all debating and guessing what might happen next year and waiting anxiously for some Marlins news, I decided to share a quick story. The night of the last Marlins game (of course long after the game was over), the band Slayer was giving a concert here in FL. Guess which Marlins player was spotted at the concert and not only at the concert but was in the mosh pit for a while. Go ahead and guess... .... .... Chris Volstad. And not only that, but my sister was standing right next to him. Short story: Slayer is not really a band my sister would go see, but she was invited along with some of the people she worked with. One of those people is a good friend of hers who is a huge Marlins fan (my sister is also a Marlins fan..). In any case, when the bands were changing, my sister said all of a sudden her friend noticed that the tall guy standing next to them was none other than Chris Volstad. He (my sister's friend) was like "You're Chris Volstad!" and Chris replied "I don't know what you're talking about..". "No really you're Chris Volstad!" my sister's friend replied. Chris continued to deny it was him but I think he was doing it jokingly. At one point my sister's friend even said "I watch enough Marlins games to know that you're Chris Volstad." Finally a friend who was with Chris turned to him and just said, "Man, just admit it..he knows it's you." Chris eventually admitted it and after that he was pretty cool, according to my sister. My sister kind of went to the back after that to get away from the mosh pit but her friend and some others stayed with Chris Volstad during the concert. To top it off, as they were leaving the concert..Chris had parked right by them so they saw him again after the show. Since I was not there, I'm going by what my sister had told me but I think it was pretty cool. I know it's nothing news-worthy or important but I just thought I'd share that. But who'd think of seeing Chris Volstad at a Slayer concert in a mosh pit? Not me anyway...I guess a good way to end the baseball season? Btw, for any who might say "Maybe it really wasn't Chris Volstad..." it was him. I mean, I wasn't there but my sister and her friend would know if it was really him or not and he did admit it after a while.
October 5, 201015 yr Wow, Slayer is still around!?! They were big when my brother was in HS in the early 90's. Shocked they're still touring and recording.
October 5, 201015 yr Didn't think Volstad would be into music like that. I heard in an interview his favorite band is Dave Matthews Band and Slayer is a HUGE contrast lol. He even wears #41 in honor of one of their songs (#41) lol.
October 5, 201015 yr He's going to break his arm in one of those things In that case, maybe we should send Miller to a concert....

October 5, 201015 yr Author was the concert in orlando at the hard rock? i was there this weekend for halloween horror nights and i walked past a huge line of people to get in and i didnt even realize he was there! It was in Miami. From an ad for it in the Sun Sentinel: Slayer/Megadeth Headbangers will love the headliners' wildly chaotic guitar solos. Metal titan Slayer was one of the most distinctive, influential and extreme metal bands of the '80s. Veteran heavy metal thrash quartet Megadeth, above, plays the usual death and "Symphony of Destruction." Anthrax opens. Where: Bayfront Park Amphitheater, 301 N. Biscayne Blvd., Miami When: 7 p.m. Sunday It was on the same day as the last game for the Marlins
October 5, 201015 yr I like that how sports players can still feel comfortable doing normal things in public that they would do otherwise and not see it as a hassle or whatever. For example one of the players for Rangers, the soccer team I support, who has scored 2 massive, crucial winning goals in the past week walked by me in a cinema last Saturday night, a few hours after playing a game.

Yeah I know what you mean. And that's pretty cool. Can you imagine sitting in a movie theater and a celebrity just sits down next to you. I mean the odds are against me that Jessica Alba will ever sit down next to me the next time I'm at the movies lol. As long as the players don't think they're "too good to be seen with us regular people"...I hate celebrities (or anyone else) who are like that

Carter is good. I haven't listened to them in a long time now though. Sucks that LeRoi died (he was really good). I'd like to see Volstad play the drums though..that should be a segment on Marlins Live next year

Well lets be serious. If Chris was a Yankee and the concert was in NY more than likely he would have VIP seats instead of being able to be in mosh pit. He plays for the Marlins which means he was probably shocked when you recognised him. Most people here in So Fla probably just think he is just this really tall dude. :shifty
