December 15, 201015 yr If anyone had there pick of Jamie Moyer dominating the fish or taking there chances with Cliff Lee....as far as this team is concerned...I would rather face Cliff Lee I don't know that I entirely agree with you 100% but I completely understand the point you're trying to make. Makes you wonder. Sometimes we face aces that are beatable, and then sometimes we get dominated by #4 and #5 starters. So really, none of this Phillies hype really matters until everyones out on the field playing ball. In the past we have shown a very big problem with those soft throwing #4 and #5 guys. But here's something that hasn't been mentioned yet. Those 4 guys are a combined 15-13 with a 3.49 ERA vs us. And for the most part that was with a very young, free swinging line up; backed up with a pourous defense. In the past we have heavily relied on the "3 run dingers" to pull games out for us. It's already been stated that is going to change. Shoot for the WC? Heck, I welcome the challenge of competing for the NL East crown. They've had it for 4 years, time to pass it on. Bring em on. Let's show their "brotherly love" some "southern hospitality."
December 15, 201015 yr Rab pretty much nailed it: thank God for the wildcard. You guys are already admitting defeat. I refuse to join you. If we can't compete with the best during the regular season, then a trip to the play offs will be pretty short. Sounds to me you guys are at least subconsciously conceding to that as being fact.
December 15, 201015 yr Perspective seems to be a quality in very short supply around here. The Yankees spend ~$200 million year-in and year-out and sign no end of expensive free-agents, yet they have just one WS win in the last 10 years. Baseball has more than just a small element of randomness about it, which always works against the higher-payroll teams. Just ask the Yankees about 2003. And 8 other years of the last 10. The Marlins are better positioned to compete in '11 than they have been in some time. Contrary to the new-found conventional wisdom, the sky hasn't yet fallen, nor is it likely to do so, Lee or anyone else notwithstanding.
December 15, 201015 yr No guarantee they all stay healthy or each have career seasons. No need to throw in the towel for the division before the season even starts.
December 15, 201015 yr I know Erick that he wasn't a signing. Sorry I meant acquisition. None the less, should I expect nothing from him? Or is that after the second lefty in the pen is signed? Pretty much. The Marlins are after a veteran lefty in the pen for a reason. Richardson won't make the team out of Spring Training. He has options, and he'll go down to the minor leagues to hopefully fix his control issues. If guys start getting injured in the pen, he'll be up as a depth guy, which is nice to have especially from the left-handed side. You could make a case that there are other guys in the pen who have options and can be sent down, but Richardson is nowhere near as good as Dunn, Webb, etc. The Marlins (without the 2nd lefty signing) currently have about ten guys out of the bullpen who are better than Richardson.
December 15, 201015 yr however.... John Buck is batting .353 against Cliff Lee, and has the highest OPS (1.142) of any hitter in the majors with at least 22 appearances against him. 12-34, 5 walks and 3 homers CHECK AND MATE PHILADELPHIA /NL East title
