Super Bowl XLV

I agree that the Steelers shot themselves in the foot but if Nelson and Jones could catch, he would have approached 400 yards and thrown for 4 TDs. Rogers was clearly the best and most valuable player on the field.

Come on! If the Steelers didnt shoot themselves in the foot Rodgers may or may not have had 2 of those TDs. Just like you can make a case for him having more TDs, he could've had less too!

Listen, again I'm not trying to discredit him. Rodgers was great. But he's played better solo games.

Touche. Which is why I asked if this was the super bowl. A ton of dropped passes and a one dimensional game by Green Bay and a crap load of turnovers by Pittsburgh. Very entertaining game but definitely not great in terms of quality of play.

And this is one of the best performances by a QB in Super Bowl history. Seriously, it was a near perfect game. It probably would've been a perfect game, if not for the dropped passes. They're actually talking about it now on ESPN; Rodgers was amazing tonight. You have to take into account that the best defense in the NFL knew that GB had a weak running game; they knew that to win the game they had to stop one guy - Aaron Rodgers. Not only did they not stop him, they never even came close to containing him.

Erick you're a statistics freak. Watch the god damn game dude. Analyze what's going on. Rodgers had just as many throws over his receivers heads/behind his receivers as [Jordy Nelson] dropped.

Statistically it might have been 'perfect' simply because Rodgers did everything he needed to do to not screw up. He hardly was in control of that game. He had a handful of 3-and-out drives.

The Steelers f***ed up (fumble, 2 INT = 3 turnovers). Just as much credit is deserved to Clay Matthews, but since Clay Matthews doesn't get fantasy football statistics it's often underlooked. He's not a centerpiece.

What about Nick Collins TD INT? That arguably was the difference in the game. This wasn't a Brady performance. It certainly wasn't perfect. He didn't exactly come up when his team needed him. He wasn't clutch in any way (well, performing well in a Super Bowl is clutch, but I mean in terms of game play).

No, I seriously saw him make a bad throw like 2x maybe.

Clay Matthews didn't do much aside from the forced fumble...he also tipped one pass. There's no way he was anywhere near as valuable as Rodgers in this game. And while Nick Collins got that easy interception, he also screwed up greatly on the running play that led to the Steelers last TD.

Rodgers was clearly the MVP of that game. Come on. It's not even about being a "stats freak." He was statistically great; he was great to the majority who watched, as well.

I watched the game, and I think you're really over exaggerating the amount of bad throws he had.

... and looking at the stats and saying 'perfect game' wouldn't be exaggerating Rodgers performance? He was anchored by his defense. He didn't have to perform at his highest level because his defense did a ton of work for him.

So you're discrediting him for capitilizing on every opportunity that the Steelers gave him? Isn't that the sign of a great QB? The Steelers made mistakes, and Aaron Rodgers made sure he drove down the field to not only get points, but more specifically, get touchdowns.

Really, the fact he had multiple TD catches dropped only makes his performance better.

And oh yeah...he was playing against an elite defense!

A bit. But you have to admit, he was game was damn near perfect. On this stage, with all of those weapons out, to do what Rodgers did was spectacular.

We must've watched different games...

Clay Matthews was phenomenal. I don't know how you could say he didn't do much aside from forcing a fumble and tipping one pass...

unless you just looked up the statistics which say he forced 1 fumble and tipped 1 pass.

Defensive players are so incredibly underrated because you cant measure defense with big numbers in any way.

Oh lord, troll hard Erick. Because, you know, I haven't said several times that I'm not discrediting him. I never said anywhere that he was lesser of a player because he capitalized on Steelers errors.

Instead of having to march down a full field he had to march down less than 40 yards, twice.

Not only that, but his receivers were able to run down the field with relative ease/expertise. Did you see Nelson's run? With YAC, it's hard to really credit a QB with all of those yards.

Aside from the turnovers, GB's defense wasn't all that impressive. They were disappointing against the run game; it's not as if Clay Matthews had Roethlisberger on his ass all game. The 4th string CB (forgot his name) was just as impressive as Matthews today. Not trying to discredit some of the things he did, but Clay Matthews has had way better days.

So he drove 40 yards and capitilized on opportunites by putting up 6 instead of 3 against the best defense in the NFL. He actually played a big part in making Troy Polamalu look stupid a couple of times. Very impressive.

Also, it's hard not to get YAC when Rodgers is leading his receivers perfectly with his passes. Seriously, stats aside...he made some great passes. Nelson actually screwed himself out of an MVP award by dropping about 3 passes...including a big one that would've been a touchdown (another perfect pass by Rodgers that went through Nelson's hands).

By the way, it can't be mentioned enough. The Packers had no running game today. The Packers #2 receiver left during the middle of the game, and never came back. The Steelers had the best defense in the NFL this year. Aaron Rodgers still did his thing. Seriously, stats aside if you want - everything about the performance was great. To quote Lil Wayne..."Aaron Rodgers - MVP Award."
