Super Bowl XLV

Featured Replies

If this was based solely on QB's, I'd pick the Packers. Aaron Rodgers>Ben Roethlisberger.

Big Ben has 2 rings, and has played stellar in the Super Bowl. What has Aaron Rodgers done? Don't get me wrong, I can't say that Rodgers will fail or something since he's been pretty good up to this point.

Just that the Steelers have been in this position with two other teams (them not being the underdog/new Super Bowl appearance for the past umpteenth years).

No, he hasn't.

This will be a test for Rodgers if it is a close game. That is one area I have a lot more faith in Big Ben than him.

If you're questioning the ring count... he has 2.

If you're questioning his play... then I suggest you actually watch those Super Bowl's as opposed to looking at the stat sheet. Situationally, Roethlisberger as a leader and QB did all he had to do to win a Super Bowl.

Roethlisberger did just about all he could do to lose his first Super Bowl; his team bailed him out.

His second Super Bowl was unspectacular as well, although to his credit he did get the job done on the last drive.

With all that said, he's really not the main reason why they're winning Super Bowl's.

Come on Erick. Are you really going to bag on a QB for having a below average game in the Super Bowl during his second NFL season? Ben Roethlisberger has proven that when the pressure is on, he delivers. That throw to Holmes was indicative of what his potential is. Only a very very small handful of NFL QB's make that throw in that situation.

If Ben Roethlisberger plays well and helps the Steelers win a 3rd Super Bowl, he can be a slightly above average QB the rest of his career and he'd still make the Hall of Fame.

I love Aaron Rodgers as much as everybody else, but if I'm choosing the guy I want to lead my team in this game, Roethlisberger is the guy. In about 2-3 years Rodgers will probably surpass Roethlisberger as being "the guy" in the big moments, but right now Roethlisberger is the 2nd most clutch QB in the NFL next to Tom Brady.

Without him, they don't get to the Super Bowl. A prime example of that is the Steelers were 6-10 in 2003-2004, and when Roethlisberger took over in 2004-2005 the team went 13-0 in the regular season under him and went to the Conference Championship. He had a 98.1 QB Rating...AS A ROOKIE! He officially became an elite QB last season. Sure, he's got some work to do to build a Hall of Fame resume, but he's only 28. He's got good years ahead of him, and the supporting cast around him will allow him to continue to grow as quarterback.

I never said he doesn't make a case for HOF QB; I'm just saying that he has a great team around him, and this whole "he's clutch/best SB QB everz" thing is being overhyped. The main reason why the Steelers are contending every year is because of their amazing defense. And their most valuable player is not Ben Roethlisberger; it's Troy Polamalu. Check out the Steelers record without Polamalu/their #'s in run defense/total defense without Polamalu over the last couple of years. He, along with the rest of that defense, are the main reason why the Steelers have put together a consistently great organization.

At the end of the day, the Steelers went 3-1 without their "super clutch" QB this year. I'm not trying to make him look like the second coming of Trent Dilfer, at all; I'm just saying that the media, etc. seem to be overrating him quite a bit because of the whole clutch factor/3 SB wins at a younger age than Brady thing.

I'm also saying that Aaron Rodgers is the better quarterback, who hasn't been blessed with the trust from the very beginning (because old man Favre was still around), and hasn't been blessed with the same caliber of teams that Roethlisberger has had until this year.

This year is the first year Aaron Rodgers has had this kind of team around him, and still, it's not better than what Roethlisberger has because the Packers still haven't had a running game since Rodgers took over at QB (at least not until this recent showing by James Starks in the playoffs).

I would have gave Big Ben the MVP over Santonio in SB43

Sunday will settle the argument. If GB wins, Rodgers will be the it QB of the league. If Rodgers loses another close game (i think i heard someone say he is 1-11 in games decided by 4 or less? not sure) and Big Ben gets his 3rd super bowl, BIg Ben is an automatic HOFer (whats his record in the playoffs?) and that stigma might not leave Rodgers until he wins the big one.

I do get quite sick of the in spite of arguments. The guy is a winner (on the field)

I'm not overrating him at all. I'm simply putting it that Roethlisberger executes when he needs to. Of course he has an amazing defense. Of course Troy Polamalu is their best player.

Take a look back though. Who is throwing up at half time and not leading his team to a Super Bowl? Donovan McNabb.... throwin 3 TDs and almost 400 yards (albeit 3 INTs). There are those who are able and those who are not. We know Roethlisberger is able to, and with 2 rings on his fingers there is absolutely no pressure on him. He wont be the one throwing up at half-time. Aaron Rodgers, on the other hand...

We wait and see.

I still think this is a horrible way of looking at it.

I guess Dan Marino's career was incredibly overrated...

OT:

Why is it that Michael Vick gets so much public hate for what he did to pitbulls, yet Rothlisberger rapes a woman and nobody cares?

Because there's a good possibility that those were just some skanks trying to make some money.

Well it's not a matter of 'why dont people care' about Big Ben...

it's a matter of why they've blown dog-fighting into something that's potentially bigger than rape. When, lol, it's not.

I think if something dies it would be much worse than rape, but that's just me.

..and according to an ESPN poll, Jay Cutler is far less likable than both of them. Go figure.

...and I don't really see all the public hate for Vick. A few years ago yes.. not now though.

Actually now it's quite the opposite.

Everybody loves him for his 'I've changed and now I'm a hero' act.

My ass, I'm sure he's sorry for doing what he did because it f***ed his life up, but I doubt he felt any remorse for the poor dogs.

Everybody bar one.....Kevin Kolb.

I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say...

KICK THE BLEEPING BALL OFF ALREADY!!!

Decent game, glad the Packers won. Half time show - visually very entertaining, sound wise not so good.... Enjoyed seeing Slash make an appearance tho!

3.15am, time for bed
