March 13, 201113 yr Is there a possibility this guy makes the roster? Barring any drastic injuries, not really. He's good depth at AAA and is a front line backup plan throughout the season.

If he can get people out, he ought to be in the starting rotation. Looks like there will be room there for any pitcher who can retire batters.

Correction: if he can get people out, and somehow the solid starting 5 that the Marlins have pieced together implode awfully and can't get anybody out, he ought to be in the starting rotation.

According to you, our starting rotation should be: Alex Sanabia, Elih Vilanueva, Tom Koehler, Shawn Hill, and Nic Ungs.

My point is, our starting 5, and the majority of our pen, is set barring any injuries or other unforeseen circumstances. So it would take A LOT for Hill to make this team right now. He's here for depth right now, thats it, and I'm sure he knows that himself. Whether he ought to be in or not, he won't be at this point because he's way down in the pecking order.
March 14, 201113 yr Depth is good! At least we might have a couple of guys in AAA who could fill in and do a respectable job if a starter gets injured, compared to recent years where guys came up and sucked.
March 15, 201113 yr You don't keep a Shawn Hill in the majors and lose somebody else. Send Hill to AAA where he can come back up when we need him. That way, we won't have some non-prospect from AA starting when it all goes to heck,
March 15, 201113 yr Is there a possibility this guy makes the roster? He's probably 7th or 8th on the SP depth chart after Sanabia and (a healthy) West. Problem is, he's basically blown out his arm twice the last 5 years, but he looked good with Toronto end of last year and seems to have rehabbed effectively so maybe. This is solid AAA depth with some potential. There could also be a RP conversion down the road like Hensley, but I presume they are going to keep him stretched out (just like Hensley in AAA) for the year as we have pretty good RP depth at the moment and he's a good plan B if we are hit by massive SP injuries.
