May 10, 201115 yr You're smoking dope... Yes of course. So we should just accept and not bitch about it ? That's what makes message boards fun :whistle No. Bitch about how badly Javier sucks and how badly he's letting us down but don't bitch about management who made the right move. Haven't you heard? If a player doesn't pan out, it means the FO is garbage.
May 10, 201115 yr Author Hurricane, look at the last draft. the Marlins spent above draft slot money for a bunch of guys. Most notably to me, they spent $700,000 on Jacob Realmuto to keep him away from playing football at Oklahoma State and to make him the catcher of the future. He's going to be a good player. There were a bunch of guys this year in the draft that the Marlins spent a ton of cash on. You just have selective attention. You see only what you want to see. Realmuto....interesting. So then Skipworth was a bad draft pick ? Heyward was the pick there, even if it meant he wouldn't sign, at least it would have made the chances of his ever being a Brave almost zero. He would have gone to college and then the chances Atlanta would have had a chance at him so so so slim. And if he did sign with us.....OMG Heyward AND Stanton in our outfield ?!?!?!? OMFG.

Talking about the draft is so awesome. Because draft picks are clearly predictable. If Heyward was such an obvious pick at Skipworth's slot, why did he fall all the way to the Braves in the draft? From what I remember, the Braves pick wasn't right after ours. Clear mistakes by the front office, though. The draft...
May 10, 201115 yr There really is no explanation needed. We needed a pitcher. He was a low risk option with high reward based on his play two seasons ago while he was in the NL. You are only complaining because it hasn't worked out. There were other options, and cheaper ones. This owner is skeptical about spending any money, and we spend $ 7 million on this guy who all signs said was done. It was not low risk, because now a good chunk of the seasons budget has been spent on this bum. We now don't have the money to spend later this year because of the waste on Vazquez. Loria is not one to open his wallet very wide at the end of a season. Just look at 2 years ago. We missed the playoffs by 6 games because they didn't want to spend (only explaination I can think of) money to get us into the WC. 1. He dominated the NL two seasons ago. I shouldn't have said low risk, but it certainly wasn't a high risk. He's signed to one year. Depsite his suck, we're still one of the best teams in baseball. Something you seem to forget a lot. 2. We didn't make the playoffs last season because of the bullpen and pitching.

If a player doesn't pan out, it means the FO is garbage. They are paid a lot of money to be able to ascertain who is good and who isn't. Geeeesh, so the FO is never to blame ? Even if all the signs were there that he was no good ? He had a HORRIBLE season last year.

It wasn't as if this was clearly some terrible move. At the time of the signings, I'd say the Buck signing was worse, value-wise. In hindsight, Vazquez clearly sucks, but no one could've possibly predicted that he'd be this bad; he wasn't even this bad last year, as bad as he was last year.
May 10, 201115 yr I'm convinced that Hurricane is Mungo. Does anyone remember Mungo? I do. But there posting style seems different. I'm not sure if it is him.

As for one of the better teams in baseball, lets wait until the All Star Break and revisit that. We need Hanley to get off the schnide soon. Last season ? I wasn't talking about last season, but 2 years ago when we won 87. If we had made some trade deadline deals, we could have made the playoffs.

Lets wait another 26 games, at least; I mean, we could still go 20-40 if we lose the next 26. This is definitely not the time to get over-confident! SHOULD WE BE WORRIED???
May 10, 201115 yr He won't go away, but somehow he hasn't managed to answer my question. Who were the safer, better, cheaper free agent pitchers with higher upside? Or even guys who fit a couple of those categories?
May 10, 201115 yr I'm convinced that Hurricane is Mungo. Does anyone remember Mungo? I do. But there posting style seems different. I'm not sure if it is him. Actually, I'd say they're rather similar. Both enjoy re-visiting every draft pick Beinfest has made over the years, as if the draft isn't some sort of crapshoot.

You only believe it is a foolish signing because he is horrible right now. Hindsight is 20/20. No one could have predicted he would be this bad. He dominated the NL two seasons ago. Last season he struggled, as usual, in the AL. When he was signed, we were looking to capture his NL form. It didn't happen. Big deal. Everyone makes mistakes. This team is still competitive, and will compete for the whole season. My mistake about that.

But Mungo seemed to have more of a smart ass attitude. I don't know. All I know is, they are equally annoying.
May 10, 201115 yr Author He won't give up. Why do I have to give up ? Its my opinion and I am entitled to it. You believe everyone is expected to fall in line Nazi style with what you think. Dude, its you that need the attitude adjustment. I have not been rude, or insulting, nor have I singled out anyone for ridicule, as others have done to me lately on this board. I believe that the Vazquez signing was not right or smart. Thought that at the time it was done. I haven't changed my mind. Geeeesh......:banghead
May 10, 201115 yr Wasn't there talk on our website about the possibility of seeing the Flying Dutchman again? I'm not well versed on players outside of the Marlins but perhaps that might be one of those cheaper options hurricane alluded to? Javy sucks. Any decent gambling man would look at that velocity scatterplot that was posted awhile back and put their money somewhere else. The thing was trending down hardcore.

Geeeesh......:banghead I'd respect your opinion if you could at least statistically support your opinion by listing the obvious better choices that were out there this offseason. Who was clearly better than Vazquez this offseason, in terms of starting pitchers, that we could've had for less money, as you stated in this thread?
May 10, 201115 yr I will say this, I think it's time to part ways with him. I'm not sure how, but we need someone else.
May 10, 201115 yr Author He won't go away, but somehow he hasn't managed to answer my question. Who were the safer, better, cheaper free agent pitchers with higher upside? Or even guys who fit a couple of those categories? Then why in the world did we pay him $ 7 million. Give him a contract for $ 3 million and tell him to be happy about it, and then go get someone for 3rd and more bullpen help. If he doesn't sign so what, we get someone else but have our 3rd baseman.

Are you talking about Rick Vanden Hurk?
