I like the 3rd photo a lot. It's a great view of what it will be like to sit almost behind home plate. I also love the window area and the buildings in the background real nice feel, it's going to be good!

Those shots behind home plate have cement between the seats and the field. Did they abandon the aquarium idea???! Please, no...

Looks small, but nice. Please tell me the field is bigger in person. I want a pitcher's park.

Some info about the ballpark the guide told me. Im going to try and remember as much as I can.

 

Naming rights are going to a national brand (pepsi and bacardi were given as examples). The different color areas in the park will be regional. Should be announced soon. Different colors are going to be directional. You will park in the blue zone in the parking garage, go to the blue gate entrance, and up to the blue seating area. Its going to be really simple to navigate this park. It doesnt look bad/stupid at all. There are colored tiles on parts of the exterior as well.

 

Lots of bars. Apparently more bars than this guy has ever seen in a ballpark/stadium.

 

If the temp outside is less than 75 the roof/glass stays open. If its at or above they close them.

 

Stanton cranked a homerun into the street during that bp event they had.

 

There will be other advertising. It will be few and big instead of small and everywhere.

 

The roof is almost done. Once they finish it they arent as concerned about hurricanes since the majority of the work will be inside. I think he said it will be done in 2 months so cross your fingers...

 

Not a bad seat in the house. We walked down the 3rd baseline and to the foul pole. Still feels like you have great seats. We didnt leave the main area that wraps around the ballpark but its easy to tell there wont be a bad seat.

 

7500 sqft restaurant will be open all year and will be like a duffys or ale house (examples given to me). Also a smoothie and mexican place.

 

The last couple rows under the overhang may have a slightly obstructed view of the jumbotron. Just like a sliver of the top depending how tall you are. They have sold a lot of season tickets...like...a lot. Pretty soon they will announce partial season plans.

 

He made it a point to explain why the marlins have traded away star players in the past and really made the effort to say it wont happen anymore. Pretty sure he was told to say this. Many of the people at this event/tour are current season ticket holders or were literally buying a box that day. It seems to me they made sales. Again they stressed the fact they werent going to let players go because of a tiny payroll anymore (most of us know this already).

 

I got to see the unfinished concourse where the players will walk etc. Seems like its going to be really nice. Also they already had kitchen equipment in at least one of the consession stands and in the players kitchen.

 

The whole "im gonna get wet walking to the parking garage" thing is dumb now that ive been there. You might get a little wet but if anything there is going to be sh*t to do after the game. You might not want to leave right away. That being said...traffic is going to suck. You are going to want to chill for a bit anyways.

Homerun feature...he said its going to be an arch that is always up. When a hr is hit 3 marlins will go around this arch, as if they were jumping, with a water fountain show (like in vegas) and lasers hitting the water/marlins. The lasers are already on the big screen. I don't think we are going to see a red grooms monstrosity but didn't ask specifically about red grooms (derp).

Best access in and out of a stadium that I have been to is Camden yards. They have a rail system that drops you off right in front of the stadium and then takes you as far as 30 minutes outside the city to a Wal-mart where you can get in and just drive home

I think Camden Yards might be the best located park in all of baseball.

I guessed a Duffy's a couple weeks back. Mainly because they and the team made such a big deal of them being the "official sports bar of the Florida Marlins." Hadn't even thought of Ale House. Either would be fine. Guess the wings place others brought up would be okay, too.

 

But I gotta wonder how busy they would be in the off season. Why would anyone drive that far to go to one when there is usually one right down the street from where they live? Will that area really support a restaurant that size 6 months of the year? Apparently they are planning quite a few off season events to keep things busy.

 

But another guess that's not so hard to come by......Whatever that restaurant is, it's where the next Holiday Party is at.

My thought on this is other than the time it takes to get out of the garages, for those who use them, I just cannot see traffic being a bad as in some stadium areas. Some cities have just one or two main roads around the stadium before you can get out to the main streets. That creates jams. For all the years I went to the OB, whenever there was a Cane game or Dolphin game with attendance in the 30's and 40's, it was relatively a breeze leaving. There are so many streets to get in and out of the area-but if you do not know them, don't expect me to tell you.

You can also use the Metrorail. Currently the closest station is I believe the one wear Jackson hospital is. It would be a 12 block or so walk from the station which would only take 10 minutes or so. I'm not sure about the neighborhood though. is that one of the places you may not want to walk through at 10:30pm on a Wednesday night?

Unfortunately, to me the description of the home run feature you are recalling/were given sounds just like the ugly Red Grooms thing:

As someone else said, that area isn't done yet - they've not even put the Diamond club (or third baseline) seating area in yet - notice the big drop off there. The Diamond club seats will extend all the way to the edge of the concrete you see that forms the dugout, and yeah the aquariums will still be there. These areas have had to wait to be completed because the crane that was being used to build the roof was using the space where those seats go. And actually, the crane was lowered and dismantled yesterday and today, so I wouldn't be surprised to see construction on those two areas started soon.
