June 19, 201115 yr Who is in the running for new manager? Who do you choose? I choose McKeon - need a different personality in that clubhouse.
June 19, 201115 yr McKeon is the only name i've heard tossed around for this season. Valentine says he hasn't been contacted.
June 19, 201115 yr #Marlins Very strong indications that a new manager will be in place by tomorrow night's game. Jack McKeon appears most likely choice -Frisaro
June 19, 201115 yr Am I the only one a bit concerned about having an 80 something year old Jack managing?
June 19, 201115 yr Am I the only one a bit concerned about having an 80 something year old Jack managing? Concerned about what? That we'll lose 18 of 19?
June 19, 201115 yr Am I the only one a bit concerned about having an 80 something year old Jack managing? Concerned about what? That we'll lose 18 of 19? lol I know right.... There isn't much to lose at this point. Nothing seems to be working.
June 19, 201115 yr Er, my concerns can be extended beyond the teams record which isn't going to get any worse at this point. Was looking for at his health for one, managing a young struggling team is incredibly stressful and you're not exactly at your peak physical or mental condition at 80. Two, the fact this is nothing more then a stopgap which is what we had with Edwin, maybe Loria should actually consider opening up his wallet a little and stop looking for yes men and try finding a more permanent solution. Three, the season is essentially done. We'd need a 20-some win month just to get back to the possibility of of competing so hiring another stop gap for the sole reason of competing seems a bit pointless. I'm just sick of the managerial merry-go-round and bringing back Jack isn't going to put an end to that anytime soon. It's not good for the players and it's not good for the organization's image.

We were close to getting Valentine mid season. The D-Back got Gibson, though I believe he was within the organization. You're not going to get any current managers, but there are certainly long term solutions you can seek out in the middle of the year.

Man wants to manage a big league club and seems to have the capability to do so and most baseball insiders look at him as someone who could be a solid big league manager. Got a load of credentials as a player and has had great success managing in the minors, he'd be cheap and has nothing but upside. Seems like he'd be an ideal fit to me.
June 19, 201115 yr I was thinking of Mckeon yesterday but I figured I'd be laughed off this board if I threw his name out. But isn't he only being suggested as an interim manager? What's up with that anyway? You're not supposed to look for an interim manager. Its supposed to be an emergency appointment of somebody on staff already.
June 19, 201115 yr MeKeon's line-up batting first Steve, batting second Steve, etc..... Hey, maybe we should start a thread on who Steve will be.....
June 19, 201115 yr I hope is Jack, can't wait to see him going to the mound and ripping off pitchers when they won't throw strikes.
June 20, 201115 yr Leo Durocher He DIED in 1991 I think that was a joke... Nope, Loria will hire him to save money. In a statement, he will say he is managing from ''Heaven'' and therefore his salary is void or whatever.
