September 27, 201114 yr Also, the reason why the lineup sucked this year was because of Hanley Ramirez's aberration of a year. People also seem to ignore that we have a bunch of second year players in this lineup, certainly capable of improving. You can predict stats all you want, but at the end of the day, there's a human element as well. Second year players come in as rookies mashing the ball and exceeding expectations only to later have to make adjustments on the adjustments being made on them. At the end of the day, if the team signs just Aramis Ramirez for the lineup, you're talking about a lineup that can very easily be one of the most productive lineups in baseball next year.

Another guy who hits 40 HRs a year, would not excite the fan base too? Yes, obviously. That doesn't mean you have to go all the way to 10 years/30 mill per. Making moves like that to get a few extra butts in the seats is poor business. The excitement will go away if the team wins nothing while he's good, and he starts to decline/ultimately destroying the franchise financially for some years. I'm not denying that it would be fun to watch Hanley, Pujols, and Stanton dancing on stage predicting 8 World Series titles, but lets be realistic and realize what this team needs as a whole, as well.

In the same vein, I'm currently trying to make it work between Scarlett Johansson and myself. Pujols is getting 10 years from someone. Personally, I'd be shy of anything over 6 years.

The three teams capable of eating away a couple of crap years at $20m-$30m a year (Yanks, Sox, and Phillies) are already set at 1B. Cubbies are still a complete mess financially so I don't see them driving the market to 10, the Cards out of desperation may be the only team who would do it but given the fact they're payroll right now is loaded I don't know if they'd pull the trigger. He may want 10 years but if no one is willing to offer it he's got no choice unless he's willing to retire which I seriously doubt. What team is in a position to put 10 years at $25m-$30m on the table for a 32 year old 1B and still remain competitive?

September 27, 201114 yr I agree. Pitchers are top priority. I could honestly care less about Pujols. He's good but he's getting old. The only positive with that signing is that maybe he would bring up Hanley's game. I think they'll make a strong push to get him since Loria's pet is Hanley....
September 27, 201114 yr I think it all depends on how much we're willing to spend and how much Albert wants. If we're willing to go to $100 mil, it might be worth it to add Albert. He's a 7-9 win player; even a combination of Wilson and Ramirez might not be able to match that. Especially if you are able to trade Nolasco and Gaby for a young pitcher and use Nolasco's money on another Starter.
