It's quite possible that Hanley goes to LA and lays an egg in 2013 and 2014. In that case, the Marlins probably dodged a bullet by dumping that salary. I think the most important thing is that the Marlins invest the money wisely and don't sign another John Buck or Heath Bell.

July 25, 201214 yr Now that I've had a little while to think about this trade, I am feeling better about it. When I first read it on the screen, I was sickened at the little value we got from the Dodgers, and maybe part of me just doesn't want to admit just how much Hanley has fallen from his elite status. But at the end of the day, there's no denying that it was Hanley's time to go, you just wish you could get a little more value, but like Penguino said you have to realize that the value is not in the prospects received, but rather in the money that will be coming off the books, which hopefully will be put to good use.

July 25, 201214 yr Conversely, how are Dodger fans reacting to having Shadez nation in their line-up I read a board of there's a little while ago, and obviously they are happy. They aren't the ones paying Hanley's salary, and the formerly broke Dodgers haven't shown that they'll let money effect how they spend in free agency, so it's a great low risk, possibly high reward signing. I actually like Eovaldi more than I did when the trade was announced. He's pitched decently in all but two of his ten starts this season. He'll be with the big league pitching staff immediately, so we'll get a good look at the kid. Not totally defending the trade, but I'm open to a wait and see scenario.

I'd hate to give a soon to be 32 year old with an injury history a 7 year deal (Hello Jayson Werth). I'm still on the get Michael Bourn train. Somehow, we need a 3rd baseman. That without a doubt is going to have to be our #1 priority this offseason. I mean Dobbs is now our starting 3B. That Carlos Lee trade sucks now. We took a chance hoping for a comeback in the standings, but in the process we lost our backup 3B plan.

July 25, 201214 yr Hamilton's a hero in Texas. I'm sure they'll give him 7 years on good faith alone. He's a marketing behemoth, and has been one of the top 3 hitters in baseball the last few years. Being 4 am, I guess I need some sleep. If they thought they could sneak this trade by people by doing in at 2:30 AM, they were wrong! Marlins fans never sleep.
