August 3, 201214 yr What a great day I had in Viera yesterday even though the GCL team came up short it was nice to see a 3 run rally in the 9th. The Heaney debut and Stanton's blast! Definitely worth the trip to see the little fish!
August 3, 201214 yr i would really prefer him to be in AA. i hate having pitching prospects in AAA. anyways, his lack of strike throwing is kind of concerning but we'll see what happens. also, yelich needs to be promoted to AA already. speed up his development, he's ready, plus it gives him a little bit of experience in AA before next year

August 3, 201214 yr now that hes played about half a season, his 162 game projection in A+ ball is: 194 hits, 45 doubles, 8 triples, 22 hr's 80 rbi's 32 sb's, a .316 average, .396 obp, and a .916 ops what more can the kid do?

A+ Ball goes out to, I believe, 135 games, not 162. Either way, those numbers are awesome. That's a guy I'd love to have batting second or third.

August 4, 201214 yr Austin Barnes second half splits: 33 G | .362 AVG | .422 OBP | .645 SLG | 1.067 OPS Nice K/BB rate to go along w/ great defense at C/2B.

Seems to be he's more a second baseman than a catcher, but appears to have a really good arm nabbing almost 40% of runners in small sample sizes. Why doesn't he catch more...?

Well he backstopped just yesterday right after the short delay. I think he can play both. But we have plenty of C prospects already as it is (Brantly, Realmuto, etc.)
August 4, 201214 yr Still, though, with the stats he has, he'd have much more value as a catcher. Either way, he's in Jupiter, so it's all good.
August 4, 201214 yr they probably want him to play more often and he cant do that playing catcher everyday. or i made that up, either one.
August 4, 201214 yr yeah he makes for a nice prospect either way, would like to see him in Jupiter though. he might be a little undersized for the strain of catching, but no reason he couldn't wind up a platoon guy or something. certainly seems to be able to hit. heck, even if he winds up at 2B, our system is pretty thin on infielders so it's good either way, looks like he's got a little pop in the bat.

August 4, 201214 yr Looking at the stats, I really love his BB to K numbers. Doesn't seem to have much speed, but maybe he could be a real nice #2 hitter in the future if those stats hold up. Or a #3/#5 if his power increases. He has a lot of doubles, I'd say the home run numbers could go up a little.
August 5, 201214 yr Stanton hit another home run today. Interesting kid to follow in the minors. Should we give him a shot at the big league club?

Like I said, maybe a #3/#5 if his power increases. With that walk/strikeout rate, if that stays consistent and his power goes up, then definitely a #3 hitter. Although, Yelich is expected to be the #3 hitter, isn't he, in the future? Then again, so is Morrison, if he ever comes back to what he used to do ... LOG JAM AT #3! Yelich 3, LoMo 5, Barnes 6? IDK.
August 5, 201214 yr calm down guys. hes had a nice season but pretty much everyone does. needs to start slugging more if he wants to avoid a let down year next year in jupiter. that is a much bigger test to see who true prospects are.
