Bell Traded to Arizona in 3 Team Deal

Featured Replies

Wasn't one of Heath's problems being away from his family? Which, really, shouldn't have been an issue once school let out in San Diego, cause they could have rented a place in Miami ...

yeah - he said it was something he struggled with ...... he'll now be a 4-5 hour drive from SD (and obviously a much shorter flight), not to mention he'll play a divisional set there and at the dodgers which should provide some more family ease

in reality though when things started going south I think he just started fishing for reasons and came up with a whole lot of things that didn't feel the same to when he had success so he lashed out at the external instead of improving the internal

I received a text from my buddy yesterday saying something along the lines "you don't need to worry about bell blowing saves for the marlins next year, d'backs just picked him up......."

my question wasn't about who came back, but how much money was going out ......... $13M of the $21M isn't bad - sucks that this move didn't work out and they had to cut bait, but that's what it is

he may turn it around and be servicible, but doubt AZ will get $6.5M per year value out of the guy

I find some aspects interesting about this ........ the first is he's a lot closer to SD, he has no expectations over the contract, no pressure on him to be anything other than just another guy, a division he's familiar with and he gets a clean slate - things went south pretty quickly and he was unable to help himself get it right

however, he was very clear that he felt like he deserved a chance to close - AZ doesn't see this as his future, aside for an insurance role - he still has a large enough contract and AZ is fairly budget minded - ken kendrick can be pretty outspoken from the organizational standpoint (blasting both stephen drew and justin upton last year) and Gibby is fairly unconventional as a manager, so he may still have some difficulties fitting in if things go south or if he feels he's not getting his deserved opportunity

I'm hoping he overachieves, Arizona decides to Rebuild because they are in the division cellar ad he gets shipped to Toronto midseason.

Then in 2013 offseason he's traded to Atlanta, who then moves him at the all star break to Baltimore.

Yeah; I want him not sure what's going to happen next and uncomfortable as can be. Kind of like his save opportunities here.

He can see his family in 2014 offseason, when he decides to retire or hold firm for a no trade clause in his minor league deal.

Has there been an actual quote yet by Bell or Ozzie regarding this trade?

I believe both have been quoted as saying

"f*** YES!! ABOUT GOD DAMN TIME!"

Oh no, what am I going to do with my Heath Bell jersey?

Have it changed to "Heathkit" and you will be recognized as an old electronics (the electronics, not you) expert and perhaps also (by maybe 3 or 4 people per thousand) as an electronics education pioneer, as Heathkit was, starting in 1947 when they started selling electronics kits for and to hobbyists and students.

Heathkit at least lasted 45 years, which is a lot more than we can say for Heath Bell. And after being resurrected in 2011, Heathkit, like Heath Bell collapsed in 2012.

Heathkit into bankruptcy and liquidation. Heath Bell into uselessness and overpaid ignominy. Heathkit admitted their failings. Heath Bell never has and probably never will. A very nice contrast, but very few will get it.

If you want to be more optimistic while at the same time remaining snide, try changing it to "Heath Bar," a brand has been around for 98 years and remains a success, unlike Heath Bell. It also has the high "fat" content thing going for it, with the double entendre of he's a fat slob versus he's a fat-head. Or both, depending on the level of cynicism of the reader.

Other than that, I'd burn it.

I actually learned something from this post. Heath Bell is the gift that keeps on giving!
