May 5, 201313 yr I dont like this organizations policy on all their young pitchers. They baby them from the beginning of their careers way to much and it ends up with guys getting to the big leagues that barely have enough stamina to go past 5-6 innings. He will already pitch more this year then he has in all his life due to being in the big leagues. Trying to ride this kid in a non contending year would be moronic.
May 5, 201313 yr So Solano might be injured? Do you guys think they'll call up Dietrich? I hope they wait a bit, but it seems like they're realizing the garbage they've put together this year and are trying to hurry the kids along.
May 5, 201313 yr If they called up Ozuna so soon, I see no reason why they wouldn't rush Dietrich, as well.
May 5, 201313 yr With Austin Barnes beasting in high A, they can call up Dietrich and test Barnes at 2B in AA. Fernandez and Ozuna getting called up showed that we're not worried about rushing our prospects (especially when our major league guys are for the most part awful), so I don't see it as that big of a deal to call up Dietrich. Hell the worst thing that can happen is he doesn't hit, which isn't as big a deal because most people on our roster can't hit, and the guy he's replacing wasn't a great hitter to start with. It's win win!
May 5, 201313 yr If they call up all the kids, then the joke about the Marlins being a AA team will be true...but we would probably win more games with our AA team than with the roster we had on opening night.
May 5, 201313 yr Dietrich did at least get 150 at-bats with tampa's AA team last year too, it wouldn't be quite as bad as fernandez I guess. His minor league numbers are pretty consistent. Still would like to see him with a few more months up here, his walk rate has finally improved and that would be a nice thing to build on. Just went 2-4 with a homer yesterday though so he's probably on a plane already lol. Sigh.... But back to the game - great stuff from Jose tonight.
