Posted May 30, 201311 yr per Juan Rodriguez twitter wasn't exactly lighting it up in AAA but his last 4 starts have been better.
May 31, 201311 yr He was absolutely meh in Spring Training and in the minors, but in 42+ innings (7 starts) he put up a 3.38 ERA for us. Turner's a part of our long term rotation plans. Hope he succeeds. I expect him to be good enough to at least stay in the rotation until the end of the season.
May 31, 201311 yr Is he ready, probably not buuuut if we're throwing the majority of our potential future pieces into the fire at the big league level, why hold back Turner. Its not like he hasn't already spent significant time in the majors. I wish him luck
May 31, 201311 yr cant wait, chills just thinking about seeing Jacob pitch (sarcasm). Unfortunately for him, we are going up against Marcum, 0-5, 5.77 who will pitch a 3 hit shutout or give up one run, for which our announcers will remark "the marlins have come up against another outstanding pitching performance". What the heck, the tickets are free from opening day offer.
May 31, 201311 yr Another huge piece from the Detroit trade. He will be throwing to Brantly I hope. Seeing two players in the mlb from that trade looks pretty good to me. Hopefully he lives up to the ace potential he has always been labeled with. Guy could be a monster in the rotation if he puts it all together. With him and Fernandez and Evoldi in the rotation we will be looking at another potential BIG 3 in Miami if you know what I mean.

May 31, 201311 yr Dont know why but Turner reminds me of Roy Halladay. Looks and build wise. Please god and thank you.
May 31, 201311 yr Author The PCL is murder on pitchers, as long as the command is there give him a shot. Right, and he's only walked 6 over his past 6 starts (39 IP). ERA is 3.00 in May so he's getting it together. I'm looking forward to watching Turner, before the season started I think the progression of Turner & Eovaldi were two of the biggest things to watch for me. They're 2 guys who if everything works out could make up a decent middle of the rotation.

Well I don't see the resemblance but pitching wise he doesn't throw as hard as Roy Holliday. If I were to compare him to anybody I would say Greg Madsux or Kevin Brown because he has a great two seemer fasty that is devastating when he has his good command. Turner can be a monster if he finds that command. I'm looking forward to this game big time and I will be there for sure.

He has been good recently and now is the time to being him up when he's hit so it don't break his stride. Evoldi and him will be monsters I think. Evoldi will have rust though so he will need time to get up to speed but when he does.... Nolasco, Evoldi, turner is about as good as it gets in the National league.

Turner can hit 95mph when he wants but he sits 91-93 which is not too far off halladay. I definitely would not compare him to Greg maddux. And by the way Kevin Brown threw high 90's for a while which neither Halladay nor Turner do.
May 31, 201311 yr Bought a Turner 33 shirt from the MLB store before spring training started. Think I will finally wear it today.
May 31, 201311 yr Watch the movement of his pitches and tell me he doesn't remind you a little bit of Greg Maddux. I am NOT saying he is just as good as Maddux so don't start on me penguinos. He just throws a similar style with similar velocity and gets a lot of bad swings cause of the movement of his screwball.
May 31, 201311 yr Turner has a screwball? no righthander can throw a true screwball but turner throws a pitch very similar although it is his 2 seemer fasty. it breaks like a screwball though watch the movement. hopefully they have the true center field view on tv tonight because that is when it can really be seen. unless you are right behind homeplate live then you can see how it breaks. it's cool. I think the last marlin pitcher to throw a real screwball was Jim Corsi lol.
May 31, 201311 yr Jim Mecir was a righty for us at one point who threw a "true screwball." A two seam fastball is a two seam fastball, not a screwball. Major difference.
June 1, 201311 yr Well it has the movement of a screwball check it out. His fasty is a bit screwy lol. Lots of movement. Jim Mecir I forgot about. A lefty can throw a true screwball because of the side that it breaks on. A righty can throw a back door slider that acts like a screwball but its almost always thrown on accident.
June 1, 201311 yr That makes no sense. It's kind of hard to explain. I'll find something on it and put up a link.
June 1, 201311 yr Ok, a screwball is a "reverse curve," basically. A "back up" slider (which is what you're looking for, "back door slider" is one that is aimed at the outside corner to an opposing hitter of the opposite side) goes more like a fastball, not an "accident screwball." A two-seam fastball does move in the same direction as a screwball, yes, but it's nothing like a screwball at all. Velocity and amount of movement are way different, as is the mechanics to throw them.
June 1, 201311 yr Hmmm... I'll check it out but I was always told differently. How come there are not many pitchers who throw screwballs anymore? And what about palm balls? A palm ball is a change up pretty much right?
