2014 off-season thread

To be honest, I think that Koehler has better "stuff" than Eovaldi.

Eovaldi's peripherals are better though, in large part because he's developed great control.

Also Eovaldi's more than a #5. F*ck last season he's still got #2 or 3 stuff written all over him.

So have a lot of guys. Doesn't mean they all become what you hope. As of right now Eovaldi has #2 stuff with #5 execution and unfortunately that results in a 4/5 guy. He needs to take that step forward.

I applaud Erick for having the balls to say Koehler has better stuff, and I do think it's closer than people think. They both have the stuff that can dominate a game, but IMO I do believe Eovaldi gets a slight edge here.

If I said that, we would see face palms everywhere. I'm glad you did though, because people seem to think the difference between these guys is much greater than it is.

have we signed stanton yet?

No.

I never realized how bizarre Redman's career was. He had one respectable year in his entire MLB career (9 years) and that was with the 2003 marlins.

He's on vacay bro

Hes all over the place. He's posted pics on Instagram in like South America and then in Paris. Lucky guy

In 2003 he won 14 games as our fifth starter. Man, that was a good year.

He had very respectable seasons in 2000 and 2002, for the record.

What I found interesting was that from '01-'08, for 8 years, he pitched for 8 teams. He was never with the same franchise for 2 complete seasons.

Yes, yes it was. :D

The only bad part of Redman's year was the post-season, where he tried his absolute best to keep us from winning the World Series. He somehow got 4 starts, pitched just 18 innings, and gave up 13 ER. Ouch. I don't remember ANY of his playoff starts, I wonder why.

Frisaro suggests the Marlins being creative with the Stanton contract talks. He says the team may bend the no trade clause, agree to bring in the fences, and promise to increase payroll to stay competitive. As in all of that stuff is actually in Stantons contract not just in shallow PR interviews.

Doesn't shock me that they'd have to include so many other things to entice Stanton. If so and if it works, then so be it.

Any thoughts?

Stanton doesn't need fences to be closer. I think we all know that.

But no trade, yes. Make it happen.

Especially considering he has been a better hitter at home in 2 of 3 years at Marlins Park (1.000+ OPS at home in '13 and '14), and the year he wasn't his splits were almost identical in 2012 (.963 at home, .977 away).

If I were him, and I saw those numbers, I wouldn't want them to change a thing. Unfortunately players probably don't consider those things.

With our luck, the Braves, Mets and notnatS will all try to have him quarantined for months before he reaches Miami.

Damn Ebola.

That would happen...that, or some zombie face eating Miami crap now that his face is all pretty again.
