June 1, 201511 yr As good as he is... actually, as GREAT as he is... I think Stanton just shows us his youth sometimes and we seemingly forget his age and assume he's already perfect. The above picture says a lot.
June 1, 201511 yr For what it's worth, a big reason why he looked that terrible in that AB was Jeurys Familia. I mean, you can't just dismiss the pitcher on the mound. Good pitching usually beats good hitting. I agree that he looked like an idiot on that slider, but that probably had something to do with the pitches that set up that slider. Familia was throwing 100 mph sinkers yesterday. He's pretty disgusting, and, against a right-handed hitter, he looks borderline unhittable. That's not a comfortable AB, I don't care who's hitting. Stanton's weakness is definitely chasing sliders low and away from RHP's. He's yet to correct that in his career. He might never correct that. A lot of power hitters strike out a lot and he's no different in that sense. This is his worst case scenario, yet he's still been one of the top 30 players in baseball this year. Clearly with upside for more. It just seems silly to criticize this guy as much as he's been criticized when you consider all of the other real problems this team has.
June 1, 201511 yr Familia is nasty I can deff agree with that. Current stats right now for Stanton: 219 PA with 68 strikeouts and 26 walks. Compare it to last year Stanton in 638 PA struck out 170 times and walked 94 times. He will definitely reach those strike out numbers which is fine because with power like that you gotta take the good with the bad. I just would like to see more walks. I like that Prado doesn't strike out much but he also doesn't walk much. So if Dee Gordon doesn't get on base in the first inning you usually will see Prado bounce out or fly out. Thus bringing Stanton to the plate with the bases empty. He produces when it counts the most though, so i'll take that!

Prado, to me, is incredibly average from a hitting standpoint. The fact that they haven't made this change yet has been mind boggling. Not only has Yelich been seeing great results for the last 1-2 weeks, but he was hitting the ball hard at people even before that. Get your best damn hitters the most ab's.

Good pitching usually beats good hitting. OK, yes, Familia has been amazing this year, but why dismiss the fact that it's not JUST good pitchers that make him look bad on sliders away? If the pitcher and catcher are thinking properly and the pitcher has even an OK slider, they know, "OK, low and away, let's see what happens." And they get him. If it was just the Familia's of the world getting him on those pitchers then fine, no big deal. But it is consistent, over and over, seems to not matter who's pitching.
