At the end of the day (or, in this case, year), the #'s will be there. His .228 batting average is rather irrelevant considering the production. His already struck out a lot but how you can try to defend the consistently horrible at bats he has had this year makes no sense. He needs to help his team win and when it really counts he has not come through. He has also hit for average before so I don't know why .228 would be acceptable to you. Stanton can and needs to be better. Its simple.
May 31, 201511 yr Ya while Stanton isn't the problem, he hasn't been nearly as good as he was last year. Im sure he will adjust though and end up over .900 OPS obviously.

June 1, 201511 yr He's probably right about the second part. He shouldn't be pitching in important situations until he has like 3 or 4 good outings in a row though. The bullpen isn't even that bad right now, not including him.

Not for nothing but Gordon saved that play against Duda otherwise it's another run or 2. Add me me to the boat that's annoyed by Yelich won't just go back to 2. Drop Prado down to 6. The bunt attempt with 2 strikes in the 8th had me like wtf!?

Stanton has been fine with men on base in the clutch. He's actually sucked when nobody is on base. He is not even close to being the problem on this team. Maybe some of you should lower your expectations. Just because a player signs a 300+ million dollar deal, that doesn't mean he should be expected to play like Jesus Christ. Mind you, he's making just a little over $6 million this year. Pick on the other countless amount of players on this team who actually suck. Or the manager who just so happens to be the general manager. Or the general manager who...well, we don't even know who it is. Or the owner. Everybody but Stanton sucks. One day, Stanton will be in the Hall of Fame and all of these other losers will just be forgotten players. You know what you didn't look up? The one stat that canadamarlin actually asked for - close and late. .133/.316/.267/.582 13 K in 30 AB. 1 HR, 4 RBI. Tie game: .221/.316/.368/.684 So ... you know.

For one, it's a ridiculously small sample. Two, it assumes you can't play a major part in winning a game unless it's late in the game, which is not true. June 1, 201511 yr Stanton's Late & Close OPS is under .600. Gosh. And his regular .OPS is .833. Y'know, the stat that actually matters. A number that will only go up for him as the year goes on, and a number that the rest of the scrubs on this team won't touch all year, with the exception of Bour who is just a platoon player.
June 1, 201511 yr FWIW I do think Cishek will regain himself one way or another. But there's no way Jennings is putting him out there in the right situations right now. It's no longer one or two bad outings, it's a series of game blowing poor outings that are doing nothing to help his confidence. The idea that putting him back out there after a bad outing will help his confidence becomes useless after one or two failed attempts. At this point what Jennings is doing is detrimental to Cisheks chances of getting himself back to normal.

I have no problem with slumping and not getting results, but the AB's, especially crucial ones, have been awful. Im all about process over result so if he was having good AB's and hitting the ball hard etc. I would be fine, but I feel like he has had so many 3 pitch strikeout AB's where he is just flailing at off speed stuff in crucial situations already this season. He should know he isn't going to be getting much to hit and be more patient, but it appears he is doing the opposite a lot of times. I agree with Erick that he isn't the problem, but to say he should not be criticized for his play thus far is an overreaction in the other direction. The way this team is built is not his fault obviously, but it does make it immensely important that he be more than just a HR/K guy.
