Dombrowski Released By Tigers

Featured Replies

I think some of you are overstating the Loria dynamic. Dombrowski is currently jobless. He is not going to turn down a job as a GM (or some type of head front office executive) just because of Loria. If the Marlins offer him the most money, chances are, he'll come here. Of course, at this point, we have heard nothing about the Marlins having any interest in him, so this might all be moot.

He is extremely valuable and will have his pick of jobs. And those other teams will likely have more capital to spend than the Marlins.

Very happy to hear Avila became the first Cuban born GM in baseball, but was mind fucked finding out Mike Hill is Cuban American....

Same here.

WUT?

We need to rid ourselves of this Front Office, or the owner, one has to go! We currently have no one capable of running an MLB team. This team is being ran like an art museum.

Exactly. It looks like a Made in China, dollar store display. Its horrible. We need changes. And this guy would make a world of a difference. It'd be like Pat Riley coming back to the Miami Heat. Dombroski Should have never left. This guy is unique, and well respected. Not to mention he'd somehow get us some of our old players back.

That's entirely possible, but that's exactly my point. Loria won't be the reason he doesn't come here. It's all about the money.

The Marlins are planning to speak with Dave but not necessarily as a GM. Possibly a role like LaRussa has in Arizona.

full roster control.

Surprised Loria would let go of his right hand in Jennings and Jennings right hand in Hill.

My dream scenario is we sign him, fire jennings and mike hill. And he in turn trades for Miguel Cabrera back. lol

For Jose Urena and Adam Conley.

Payback time.

oh yes they fu........FLEECED us. Cameron Maybin, and Andrew Miller, what a joke. Although the pitcher did become a decent closer....FOR THE REDSOX. Always life after the Marlins.

This team needs a GM that is incredibly good at the draft. Our farm system is barren and the young guys currently the majors are likely to stay as starters for the next few years barring unforeseen circumstances.

While Dombrowski is very good at acquiring good players via trade and spending the necessary money to get good players in free agency, he has never really been good at evaluating young talent. Dombrowski works well with a relatively large payroll and sign guys like Pudge, Miguel, Maggs, Anibal, Martinez, Peralta, Hunter, etc... he can acquire in free agency with the blank checks he is given.

Would Dombrowski be better than what the current front office has built? Most likely, given we have one of the worst farm systems across the board and a 20 game under .500 major league roster. If there was ever an obvious time to completely clean house, being the worst at literally every level of the organization would make it seem apparent that time is now. But Dombrowski is a bad fit for the current team, especially given his level of experience and success warrants him for better jobs than whatever the Marlins can offer. The Red Sox and Blue Jays offer him the stability, money, and payroll flexibility that Loria and Co. simply cannot offer. It makes very little sense for Dombrowski to go to Miami given he'll be inundated with offers from nearly a third of the league to be the president and GM.

I've said it before, but the best place to look for a GM would be under the Billy Beane tree. Sure, there have been some perceived failures like J.P Ricciardi and Paul DePodesta (who now works with the Mets and Alderson, go figure), but Sandy Anderson was a huge HUGE get for the Mets. Until the internal focus within the front office starts becoming far more analytical and sabermetrics oriented than all reports say the Marlins are, I don't see why we should expect the Marlins to hire any GM away from their historical process.

I have to disagree. While your statements are regarding his tenure in Detroit are correct, you've discounted the work he did with Marlins. Case in point, he drafted Miguel Cabrera here before signing him in Detroit. Of course, this is just one example of his strong draft moves. And, if I recall, he left Loria with one of the best farm systems in baseball. So, he would do very well here. Of course, it's moot because he wouldn't come back here and have to deal with the very person he walked away from and with good reason.

I'll take anything at this point.

That would be awesome! That would take Hill out. DOUBLE YES!

Cabrera wasn't drafted. He was an international signing...

The fact of the matter is that Dombrowski is significantly smarter than anyone else in our front office. That alone makes him a good fit.

And how exactly do the Blue Jays offer stability? They haven't made the playoffs in 22 years. For all of the talk about how inept the Marlins have been, think about that for a minute.
