Well considering the article was about how the fish have extremely low revenue, your comment makes no sense. Polly's right, it doesn't seem that you read it.

 

That being said it is an embarrassment that they have less revenue than every other team when there's a new ballpark. There are multiple reasons for this but one big one is the shitty TV deal they have. They are thankfully working on a new contract to put them more in-line with other teams. Right now they make nothing from TV or radio while other teams swim in that money.

I read the article.  I don't believe for one second that he's losing money after receiving the 50+ million welfare check and the national revenue.  

 

All joking about politics aside, the Marlins have realized that the safer money is in being bad or mediocre, having the small revenue that results from drawing small attendance, then sticking their hands out for corporate welfare.  On some level, it makes financial sense.  While there is some corrolation between increased spending and increased revenue, there is no guarantee that greater spending will lead to larger attendance (and larger revenue).  So the safe bet is to spend less, take in less revenue, and pocket some of the welfare check. 

 

Baseball must add a Loria clause to the welfare system that requires a welfare team to demonstrate that none of the money is pocketed.

If this is true, why would he have inked Stanton and Yelich to extensions? Why would he have signed Morse or traded for Latos (both added money to payroll at time)? Why offer Shields the most money? Why bother if he doesn't want to win?

I get that you are trying to make an ill conceived joke. But...what Loria is doing with the money he makes is a Republican stump argument.

I miss when the Marlins were on 104.3 FM Radio back in 2013. Sucks that they aren't generating revenue in TV or radio, that does put them at a disadvantage. 

 

 

I've said for years that Loria's shitty ways are a perfect example of how much he wants to win... he just don't get how. People think he wants to lose and pocket money... if that was the case there's a huge list of things he did that he would never have done. If he wants to pocket money, he probably wants to win too... so he could pocket even more money AND look like a successful owner.

 

 

Ok I just read the article and that's totally not what I expected to read. It's not bashing Loria at all. It's totally about revenue. Yes some of that may be due to some poor decisions from Loria but the way its written even the greatest owner would have trouble with revenue hear.
