Pace of play rules changing

Featured Replies

That seems kinda extreme, I thought they did fine last year even then most teams were ready to go with 15 secs or so left on the clock.

30 second limit to mound visits, timer starts when the manager/pitching coach leaves the dugout. Who is ready to see Todd Coffee become the best pitching coach of all time?

I liked the idea of working on improving pace of play but last year all it took off was 6 or so minutes of the game on average. The concept was to make games more appealing for casual fans and younger viewers but if the difference is 6 minutes how does that even matter?

"Man, good thing I chose to watch this MLB game over that NBA game, it was still boring but man I saved myself six minutes that I could then use to check my Facebook page!"

If they're not shaving off twenty to thirty minutes of game time then there's no point to this. Of course that's something that's virtually impossible so why not just leave things the way they are and just punish those who do things to deliberately stall the game, Big Papi stepping out to spit in his gloves after every pitch is a huge one... maybe limit number of mound visits. I'm not saying have like just two mound visits a game but there are some managers that abuse this.

I just feel like the pace of play rules are gonna start to be so defined and limiting that it will hurt the managers and players who are doing things right and it'll only save 6-10 minutes of game time when all they need to do is target the serious and blatant offenders.

I thought the next phase would be the in-between pitch time. Is that not happening?

There are some obvious things that MLB can do to shave off time and they have done that. But when you start timing every little thing baseball is no longer baseball.

MLB is getting too greedy and is putting money before the spirit of the game.

In fact, the game speed of MLB was already much faster than the Asian professional baseball,so really don't need to try to do to much.

Mound visits timer is dumb. Half the time they use up the time to get the guy in the bullpen a couple more pitches to warm up. All strategy. That's what makes baseball exciting, don't take that away.

Man and the 30 seconds start from the dugout not from the mound. That's pushing it.

I heard them ask on MLB network, what about Bob Melvin in Oakland that literally has a longer distance to the mound from the dugout?

Bob needed to RUN FAST to the mound now,or he had to turn around back to the dugout right after he arrived the mound.

What kind of pace of play rules do Asian leagues have that US leagues do not have?

On the flip side, at least games don't drag on forever like college games seem to. I was at a game on Tuesday for UCF, and first pitch was at 6:40. We weren't out of there until almost 10:15, and it was just 9 innings. Granted, the final score was 12-7, but, still. No pace of play rules for college baseball.

Maybe that has more to do with the quality of play than a lack of pace of play rules?
