Chen to start Opening Day

Featured Replies

if chen lose first game this topic will go cazy  why jose not starter  because chan dont look like starter pitcher

Yeah if we lose game 1 because of Chen and win game 2 with Jose I'm gonna be pissed that we started 0-1 and won game 2. It'd be so much better if we won game 1 with Jose then lost game 2 with Chen that way we can start 1-0 and then lose and end up 1-1 after two days instead of being 1-1 before game 3 like the other way instead of this way. Who's with me???

both games are must win. because you know tommy and the crew are playing against Washington the next day.

Yes and either way it's still Jose and Chen vs Detroit so nothing changes.

No, game 1 is gonna be Perez with Preston. Waltz is being saved for Game 2 because it gives him more broadcast days and they're trying to build his broadcast days up throughout the season.

Not giving a shit about Game 1 is the new Moneyball.

Suck Game 1 & catch them by surprise the rest of the way.

By starting game 2 nearly half of his starts will come on days off. Good move to limit IP

If he starts on our days off then this team is in worse shape than we thought.

Meaning he either gets an extra day of rest or we skip him.

The Marlins will say this is "innings limit" based, but it reeks of being a way to bump up attendance for Game 2. They know they'll get a full crowd Opening Day, but putting Jose the second day could get back to back sellouts.

In all honesty its probably a little of both but it feels primarily like an attendance move. Doesn't really matter anyway.

The total amount of innings will still be the same I'm guessing unless he gets hurt.

Right, but if we delay his innings then we increase the chances of him pitching pointless innings. I'd rather pitch him as we would normally than try to extend him for an October that might never happen. The moment we fall out of contention, any inning pitched by Jose afterwards is a waste, especially if we held him back in the beginning of the season.

Has Chen even reported to camp yet?
