5/14 Post Game - Game 1

Featured Replies

Leadoff single in the 8th and a leadoff walk in the 9th and nothing. Really amazing how this team lets chance after chance slip by. Its one thing if the Nationals were just taking it to us but it seems like they just constantly find a way to stay on top. With the Nationals, it feels like we basically have to lead the entire game or we just can't overcome a deficit.

We need to split this series badly.

Start the next game thread. Bring us some good luck.

Culture of losing has returned with vengeance.

Just because it worked this time, let's not forget that Mattingly brough Bryan Morris in with the bases loaded.

Also, Nick Wittgren threw 44 pitches.

Is it recency bias, or is Donnie Buttsball the worst bullpen manager we've had in a long time?

I think Stanton is 0-18 this year with RISP and 2 outs.

It just not sustainable. Our best player can't be a guy who does all his damage in spurts. When he isn't going well its an 0-4 or 0-5 and 3-4 strikeouts. It gets so bad sometimes that it looks like he doesn't even have a chance or isn't trying and it simply cannot be like that. He needs to find a way to be consistent or we won't be able to maintain success.

It is not a coincidence that as he goes the Marlins go.

I still think he can turn into a Buehrle.

No.

Yes I mentioned that. Its hard to believe he brought Morris in with the bases loaded.

canada-marlin criticizes Stanton yet gives Nicolino a pass because he/she thinks he can turn into Buehrle. Weird.

Well he did get off to a shitty start and was almost able to get through 5 innings while keeping the Nationals at bay. But if you want to criticize everything I say go ahead.

He's a terrible pitcher who pitched a terrible game and is the main reason why we lost game 1.

Fair. But what Stanton did today is something that has been going on for years and hasn't changed. If he doesn't learn how to be consistent we just won't be able to sustain winning and is a key reason why we are constantly up and down.

Seriously, Nicolino has pitched 24 innings this year and has 11 walks to 4 strikeouts. That is pathetic. I've actually never seen that stat line from a big league pitcher before.

This guy has no business being considered a prospect. He has little to no upside at all. Mediocre stuff at best. I wish we'd trade him for something before he becomes a career journeyman.

A big reason why we remain a .500 team while healthy is because this is a .500 roster that falls apart with injuries because there's no depth. It has little to nothing to do with Stanton (until he's the one who gets injured and then the team really falls apart).

Career journeyman seems ambitious. Unless something changes, he won't be in the major leagues by 2019.

Any of you who were expecting or even hoping to take both ends of this double header:

You don't sweep a double header when you send out Justin Nicolino and Kendry Flores. We're going to be lucky to win one game.

He could totally be the next Chris Narveson.

Even Narveson has a career 7.53 K/9 at the big league level. My God, Nicolino is pathetic.

Nothing compares to Ozzie's man crush on Heath Bell

The worst part is, if our "superstar" wasn't 0-5 with 3Ks, it's probably a different game. Maybe they push it to extras, maybe not. But the one thing I firmly believe is this team is built around Giancarlo. They have surrounded him with guys that can play, and produce. Now it's time for him to hold up to his end of the bargain. Because right now, Christian Yelich is our superstar

Not sure what that means, but, either way, Nicolino is bad. If you think he's actually good because of his small sample ERA, prepare to be disappointed.

Truer words can't be said. It's mentioned by the FO time and time and time again. We want to build a roster to protect Stanton. Considering Stanton is far from consistent this is really hard to do. That being said.... it's more than a long shot to assume one player is going to give you 100+ wins. In reality our offense has been great this year. Aside from a few hiccups here and there, take last nights bases loaded for example. We consistently get 4+ runs per game. Which isn't bad at all.

I'm not worried about our inconsistencies this year, what worries me is that we have no depth at all. Look at our minor league system.. every team is in last place. With literally 0 potential aside from maybe Naylor.. End rant.
