Since there is a boycott the team thread, I figure a positive (even if delusional) thread should be made too. The offense is coming around, a little consistency would be nice, but G is getting hot. Some starting pitchers are coming around nicely (Urena, Straily). BP did good today too. Post positive thoughts before the bandwagon gets overcrowded. Life is good.

 

 

I'm enjoying watching JT Riddle take advantage of his opportunity.  He reminds me of Brandon Crawford a bit.  If he keeps it up, perhaps they will have at least found a starting SS going forward.  So that's a positive.  

 

 

Kudos to Bour and Phelps for turning their season around this month.

I hope they can find takers for Gordon, Koehler, Ramos, and Ozuna. I'd dump them all after the ASG.

 

Ozuna should be more than a dump. He could be the top outfielder on the trade block and should demand a king's ransom in return (as a starting negotiation position), especially if he continues and makes another all-star selection. Hopefully if they look to trade him he doesn't slump like he is prone to before the trade is done.

 

 

I don't want this current FO making any franchise-changing decisions.  Moving Koehler or Ramos is one thing, but If a sale is indeed coming this year, I'd hold onto Ozuna and let the next owner decide what to do.  

 

 

I would have said this before Dave Stewart joined the Romney group. There is now a real possibility that he would be the one selling off all of the pieces. He's a terrible GM and makes Mike Hill look like Theo Epstein.

 

Still there is no guarantee Romney gets the team or the role Stewart would play if he does.  I just wouldn't want Loria making any long-term decisions.  However, I could see them moving some contracts though like Gordon or Prado if the bidders want to lessen the future obligations.  Hopefully the team sells soon though...that'd be the biggest positive of all. 

 

 

I totally agree with @RIP16, but we have to think about Ichiro's next option. If he performed like this season, we don't need him next season.

 

 

I think the bottom line the past week or so when we've won 4 of our last 7 is that we're not as bad as we were right before that. I still don't think we're great but at least we're not, what was it, like 5-20ish? That was NOT a true representation of this team. But at the end of the day at least this team is becoming more entertaining to watch of late. They may not be great but now I feel like I can sit and watch a game to chill out for a bit as opposed to sitting down to get tortured for three hours. 

 

 

The offense is pretty decent.

 

The team sucks overall, but they are capable of scoring runs. The problem is that they have too many shitty SP and many games the Marlins score a decent amount of runs, but the bullpen will give up 5 or 6 runs.

 

With guys like Ozuna, Stanton, and Realmuto hitting pretty well, they can win a fair amount of games when guys like Straily are on the mound.

 

100% agree with this. This is a very accurate description of them. 

 

 

Hopefully Locke can give them some of what Straily has and that would give them another decent starter that is good enough to win games.  

 

Getting Prado back healthy would be nice too.

 

 

I hope Prado gets traded too.

Straily should definitely be available. If this organization were smart (which they're not), they'd turn him into 2-3 assets via trade. Straily's nothing special. 

 

 

I think you keep Stanton because trading him breaks the spirit of every young Marlins fan (ages 6-16).  If he opts out at year 6 then so be it. That's on Stanton. 

 

I could definitely get on board with trading Straily for the reasons Erick pointed out. 

 

 

Realmuto is bad at catching the baseball. That's kind of a big deal when you're a catcher.  I'm ok with trading him. 

 

Yelich is scuffling.  That's a short term thing. Long term he is an incredible asset. 

 

 

I just dont think you'd get anything great for Stanton in the offseason unless he goes absolutely nuts the rest of the year.

The team performance will determine that.  If they somehow turn the season around from here and get close to .500 by July, then maybe they try to add.  But it's much more likely that they decide to trade pieces and start to rebuild the minor league system.  Of course, how far will depend on the sale.  If a sale is close to being done by the deadline, maybe they hold off on moving bigger names.  If not, they may just trade minor pieces like Koehler, Hech, Straily, or bullpen arms.

 

Either way, the next month or so should determine a lot about the direction that the franchise takes. 

 

 

Surprised nobody here has specifically mentioned Phelps as being able to bring back quite a bit at the deadline.  I'd think he'd be one of the more valuable pieces for just about any team in that he could close, be an 8th inning set-up guy, pitch multiple innings in relief, or even start if stretched out a bit, and he get K's.  I still think he's been the Marlins most valuable guy over the past few seasons in terms of what he's been able to do, and do well, for this team on a consistent basis.

 

Also love that Bour is hitting lefties better than righties.  He took some lumps at the start of the season but he's rounding into (all fat jokes aside) a solid everyday player.  Here's hoping he continues to progress as he seemingly always has once given ample playing time.  Good for him. 

 

On a side note, I've been busy with work over the past week so I finally got to sit down and watch some DVR'd games.  I was watching the win against the A's last night and their broadcasting duo butchered the shit out of multiple names.  Bour was Bourne - they were even making Jason Bourne references they were so convinced his name was Bourne.  Realmuto was "Reynaulto", Hechavarria was (think of the whitest, most ignorant possible way to pronounce it), Ozuna was Osuna,  Giancarlo was Jim Carlo.  I was waiting for one of them to call JT Riddle "Jit Ridley" - not that JT's mom would care.

It's far from dumb.  The loyalty of the few thousand people in SoFla who are still Marlins fans - there  are tens of thousands of baseball fans in SoFla who are still Phillies/Yankees/Boston/etc fans even though they moved here 30 years ago - would be tested and I dong think the outcome would be good. I think you're severely underestimating just how many kids down here see Stanton as this mythic baseball God.

Ehhh.. Players like jeter and kobe staying on legacy. Giancarlo isnt there yet. Hes expected to produce what his salary entails. But G is Miami baseball. And i say hes worth it if he can stay healthy. Cheers to another win today.

The real problem is Stanton may be untradeable. That contract is an abomination.
