November 12, 20178 yr Author Care to clarify more? Yeah, only thing I've seen is that rumored trade offer from St. Louis. Doesn't mention if fish are sending cash in it though.
November 12, 20178 yr Yeah, only thing I've seen is that rumored trade offer from St. Louis. Doesn't mention if fish are sending cash in it though. Does that rumored trade have any truth to it or is it a fantasy type of proposal by some one? I hate when they try and pass off someone's fantasy idea as a rumor with some basis.
November 12, 20178 yr Author Does that rumored trade have any truth to it or is it a fantasy type of proposal by some one? I hate when they try and pass off someone's fantasy idea as a rumor with some basis. It says its from Phil Rogers at the top, he's a writer for mlb.com. Not sure if it was his idea though or an actual reported offer.
November 12, 20178 yr Not that I think this is the right move but... keep Ozuna and Yelich, send some money with Stanton to get back major league pieces and some young starting pitching, and thus make an attempt to be competitive in 2018 to show the fanbase that we're not tanking it? Could that be Jeter's plan? Can we "compete" (or give the illusion of competing) while still trading Stanton?
November 12, 20178 yr Sorry, but I don't buy the idea that trading Stanton is not just a salary dump. They are not going to get the kind of pieces back that they need. Plus we already know that Gordon/Prado (good luck with the last one) are on the way out even after Stanton is gone.
November 12, 20178 yr if we were actually offered that we better jump on that in a heartbeat.
November 12, 20178 yr if we were actually offered that we better jump on that in a heartbeat. Anytime you can snatch up a SS with a 0.2 WAR you have to jump all over it!
November 12, 20178 yr Anytime you can snatch up a SS with a 0.2 WAR you have to jump all over it! He would be the 3rd most important player in that deal, and he is coming off a down injury plagued year a year after making the all star team. We'd also be getting one of the best pitching prospects in baseball, a 2nd really good pitching prospect, and an mlb ready starting OF.
November 12, 20178 yr It also doesn't say how much money the fish would be sending. You better believe it'd have to be a lot. Ziegler's overpaid and obviously we know G's insane remaining 295 mil commitment. Anyone that believes they will land top prospects which I guess Reyes is and not send back money with G is delusional. you're delusional if you think that the NL MVP wont get a top prospect, regardless of the money involved. You'll see soon enough.
November 12, 20178 yr The Marlins can get a top prospect for Stanton, but only after eating much more salary than they should be. this talk is so over done. He's not owed 40+ million a year. He doesnt go over 30 million, and he is capable of hitting 60 hr's yearly, and especially in the AL, he has value at the end of his contract as a DH. We might have to throw like 5 million a year for every year after the opt out, but his contract is really not as bad as it's made out to be. Especially after you see what guys like Martinez and Hosmer get this offseason and the Machado and Harper next offseason.
November 12, 20178 yr Exactly what I keep saying. But some here think they'll get one back and also not take on much salary. I just think 5 million a year or so after the opt out is not much. Thats like, what, 35-40 million but over the course of 7-8 years? Thats not that significant. The guy is the NL MVP and is one of the best power hitters in league history. We will 100% get a top prospect in return.
November 12, 20178 yr The only thing I can’t stop thinking about is how royally Loria and Co. F’ed us before leaving.
November 12, 20178 yr I don't see a point in attempting to trade Stanton while retaining salary - they still won't get a lot. I think that scenario, unless a total steal, falls behind retaining Stanton. Find someone who can eat his whole contract happily. Take the mid level prospects. Call it a day. We all knew this was the point where Stanton would be traded (before his opt out). That's the way the contract was designed. The only way retaining Stanton money makes sense is if they're confident they have ways to get rid of guys like Chen without eating salary. Otherwise, just keep Stanton for the year and let him walk... don't let his contract haunt this team if he's not playing for it.
November 13, 20178 yr Also, I don't like Dombrowski. He has been cheated Marlins(Loria and Hill) two times. Just remember Miggy-Willis and Anibal-Infante deals. He is a professional GM-cheater.

No that's called being a great GM. It's up to the other teams GM, such as Hill and Beinfest, to work harder and smarter to get a better return for their team. It's not Dombrowski's job to give a good return to the other team. It's only his job to get a good return for his team. That's not being a cheater. I wish he was still our GM.
November 13, 20178 yr I'm loyal to this team but this team didn't loyal to me,so… sooo then you're not loyal to this team? Is that what you're saying?
November 13, 20178 yr God i hope its not SF. their farm system is horrific. Bite the bullet on like 5 million a year and get a top pitching prospect like Reyes, Weaver, or Flaherty.
November 13, 20178 yr So every writer/reporter asks a different person where Stanton is going and each person gives a different answer and every answer gets reported on twitter and suddenly every team is in on Stanton and talks are heating up etc etc. It's virtually impossible for talks with the Red Sox to be "heating up" at the same time that talks with the Cardinals are "most intense." The two reports basically cancel each other out. It's stupid.

November 13, 20178 yr That stove is off and clearly not hot. The A/C in that home is broken so at the moment, everything in the house is hot. Get all your facts right before you speak son... of jack.
November 13, 20178 yr How a trade with the Cardinals could or couldn't work... http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/261723660/cardinals-trade-rumors-giancarlo-stanton
